Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?

I am reading it now, and it makes a lot of sense. I was wondering if any one has actually tried it?

Re: Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?

Maybe it would work for some people, but there's no way that would work for me. I crave two things=bread and chocolate. I have never once craved a healthy dose of mixed vegetables (and I'm a vegetarian).

I would hazard to guess that most people out there these days eat whatever they crave. That's why the rate of obesity is skyrocketing. The craving for lima beans versus chocolate cake just isn't that strong.

Yeah, I would say my intuitive eating has gotten me into a heap of trouble. Let us know how the book goes.

I read the book and tried it but stopped because I gained weight doing it. I need more control in my eating plan. It's a nice concept didn't work for me.

Re: Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?

Great idea, but as others have said I think I would end up eating a shed load of junk food and pasta!

I'm guessing though that the point is that if you keep eating such things, you'll get bored of them and then start craving more healthy things? I think by the time I got there though i'd be about 200 lbs ;)

Re: Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?

Yes, I read the book and tried it. I ended up gaining weight. I feel I gave the theory a fair shake, as I ate the way they prescribed for a couple of months... but when I continued to see my weight creep steadily upward, at the rate of nearly a pound per week, I had to conclude it wasn't working for me.

Now, with running and counting calories on Sparkpeople.com, I'm back on the right track -- losing about a pound per week. :)

Re: Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?
I have read it, it was given to me while I was in therapy for an eating disorder and it very much helped. It helped me to listen to my body which for someone with an eating disorder is really hard to do. Now recovered and healthy I agree that it can be a problem to give into your cravings etc...

Sounds like a sales gimick. You will crave sugar but if you get it out of your system the cravings will stop and you will be less hungry.

Re: Has any one read the book Intuitive Eating?

Sounds like baloney. Our ancestors didn't have whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted it available to them, nor did they have the same types of foods available to them that we do now. They gorged whenever they could on whatever they could get. So my guess is that "intuitively", my body will want to eat more than it needs so it can store some for later, just in case there isn't any food around for a few days. Looking around at people, you can see that we're very good at storing some for later!
