Thanks Jim. That's a PB I won't forget for a while.

You'll have to run a race at some point, you know.

I love evesdropping on JC's conversations.......

Things have been busy and very good here. Hilton Head was great but VERY hot - 95F plus. Ran four times there, about 7k each time, and finished each run as wet as if I had gone for a swim. Training is going well with the exception that I missed a couple long runs. Like having a bf but limits my free time . The speed strength stuff is great this time, but I did my first plus 30K last Sunday, so I'm contemplating trading Detriot for evil Niagara to gain a week. I had toyed with the new Hamilton Marathon a week later, which is supposedly very flat until 37k then there is a 2k stretch uphill at a 4% grade. Not sure which is worse!!!!

Hope everyone is feeling great!

Tough choice:

...trade a race that starts in the USA, gives one a taste of God's Country, and returns to the Evil Empire for one that finishes in God's Country.

...trade a steep bridge at Detroit for a not-so-steep bridge at Fort Erie

...trade a tunnel for staying outside in the rain

...trade running in a loop for running 30K into a north wind

I solved all those marathon conundrums by running Halfs.

...and usually fairly short Half marathons at that.

Hey Patti - have you looked at Philly? I'm not sure when Niagara is, but I've heard good things about Philly for a very late season marathon. Didn't JC do that once?

I'm still bumbling around trying to figure out what to train for next. Still riding and running a bit, but nothing serious. Coaching my daughter's bball team again, so that's keeping me busy.

JC has indeed run in Philly in November, more than once.

My first marathon. I like pretty much everything about the race.
I plan to run the half there this year.

Thanks Dawn. Philly is in the back of my mind. Its just its so far out and my training group winds up in four weeks. Work also gets pretty crazy starting beginning of November. Everyone else will be done........but if the next few weeks don't feel good it will be an option. Ran 30K today, the first 25 were great, right on pace, the last five a real struggle. But I had run 10k Friday and 8 yesterday, so I was tired to start. At least I have lots of options. Someone told me to check out Grand Rapids - its got rave reviews on Marathon Guide.

Today was a beautiful day for running, perfect temperature.

Hope everyone else is enjoying the fall weather, summers back by Wednesday.

Hi guys, just finished reading this thread congrats to all who have managed to stay the course.
Fantastic job in Lake placid, Dawn! Craig a real downer to read about your injury.

Well about two years ago I developed planters in my left foot around the same time my right knee was swelling up. After Xray, ultrasound and bone scan the specialist gives me the news. Who stabbed you with a needle? Apparently I had (and still do) have a 1 inch long needle / pin lodged in the ligament. To make matters worse it was broken in half. Even worse news, the specialist is just going to leave it there, unless I can't walk.

So about 2 months ago the planters was gone- yes it took that long. The knee wasn't bothering me so I started running last week. 5k in 30 min...........well it's a start.

Welcome to the thread and congrats for getting back on the road to recovery! But, I have to know how you managed to get a needle stuck in you. Do you know where it came from?

Last I remember, these Aliens were performing a....

Seriously, I don't know when I got the thing but I do have a couple of theories. The first being about 5 years ago, I was playing volleyball in the backyard. I dropped to my knees to bump the ball and felt this sharp pain. When I stoodup and checked my knee I didn't see anything other than a grass and mud stain I was in too much pain to continue playing though and by the next dat my knee felt fine. Now I may have gotten jabbed here or it may be when it broke in half, although I also think my running may have broke the needle in two. My other theory is I may have been stuck with a sewing needle when I was a kid. My mom was always making comforters and slip covers for blankets and I do recall getting stuck with sewing needles. Maybe I was jumping on the bed when I was a kid and drove one into my knee. My Mom says I never mentioned such an incident, so who knows........darn Aliens are looking more suspect all the time lol.

Speaking of Volleyball congrats to you and your daughters team.

Thanks for the congrats. It's nice to remember the good times - especially today. My basketball team just lost a very painful game yesterday: 46 - 6. We have never been beaten that badly - in fact, we're usually very competitive. The other team was just in a whole different league of play than we were. Oh well, lots to learn from this game and lots of adjustments to make for the next one.

Anyone run the trail along highland creek and along the lake. If there is would you happen to know what the round trip is from. Old Kingston road to the lake then along the lake to the rougehill go station and return. I'm guessing it's 10k but something tells me it can't be exactly 10. lol

Anybody in Scarborough running that route use a GPS system?

For those who don't follow Ontario university XC closely, here are links to a couple of recent races. Of interest are the women's results, particularly the person who came 23rd. She is related to me and is part of an outstanding Guelph rookie team who will keep them #1 in the country for years to come.

Way to go Jenn-19:14 for a rookie is fantastic, must be all that cold northern air. Certainly couldn't have to do with all that running with dear old DAD

Four years of good training ahead of her, who knows how low she could go - just had a limbo flashback
