Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
JDF, as I mentioned last month, if you're not going to attempt Umstead, I'm interested in taking your spot. Since they won't let you transfer your entry, will you allow someone to run under your assumed name? :-) Allowing, of course, you don't mind seeing a 5+ hour marathon time next to your name on the Internet. :-)

Funny, I always thought the Autism Ribbon Run was the Run for the Oaks course backwards... ;-)

Sorry I just don't think it is right to have someone run under my name. For example what if you placed in my age group yet you would have finished last in your age group. That is not fair. I hope you understand.

From Umstead's website, the only individual awards are to the top fifteen male and female finishers -- no age group consideration at all. And I can guarantee I won't be a threat to finish among the award winners anyway. :-) My best marathon time, from last year's Marine Corps, would have placed me 124th in last year's Umstead. Let me know if you change your mind.

Brad, since it is a public park, you could run with the marathoners. You would need to bring your own fluids and food, but other than that you can run the same course.

Ya, I've got a friend coming to run about 15 miles with me. He couldn't get into the marathon, so he'll just wait for me at Graylin and carry his own water.

Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
Well I rode my bike up the Wake ATT and saw the new trail that extends past 5.25 mile area--looks good. When I got to about 6.25 I ran across a sign saying American Tobacco Trail, rough uneven trail ahead and proceed at your own risk. I assumed I was in Chatham county at this point. I went forward and within 1/10 of a mile the trail was a mixture of stones, mud and pine shavings--so I turned around. The whole ride was difficult. The soil was soft and it felt like my bike was riding through sand, and I was pushing myself. When I got back to the car, I stripped down to shorts and short sleev shirt and ran a 5k. I pushed myself to see how I would do after a hard bike ride and I was happy with 28:30. I got pretty exhausted, but felt I needed the training.

I signed up for two sprint triathlons, Riverwood in Clayton April 28th and Sportsplex in the Durham area March 18th. I looking forward to doing these events. Thinking about running the Oaks 5k and Cary 5k also.

We are getting really close to the Umstead race. This weekend should be one of the toughest for training. Hope everyone is doing well.

Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Bob; yep, I know I can just show up and run at Umstead, but it was important to me to do it officially so that I could make use of the support stations and of course earn the official t-shirt. Since JDF was concerned about the integrity of the age groups, I just wanted to point out that Umstead doesn't have age groups and I'm no threat to be in the top 75% of the finishers anyway. Shame to have a spot in a limited local event go unused. :-(

Congrats to all on good weekend workouts and to those who did well at Myrtle Beach! Did that groundhog say when early spring would get here?

I wish the Umstead race authorities would give up the slot. Seems a waste.

Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself as a newer member of CoolRunning, and a semi-new runner in the area (I've been running for a few months). I was wondering if anyone on here is participating in some shorter races in March, such as the Cary Distance Festival or the Triple S? These will be my first competitive 5ks, and if all goes well, I'll do the Oaks too. Hope to meet some of you eventually!

Captain, good luck with your race. Your first is always the best. I might do the Cary Wake Med race, but have not yet decided.

City of Oaks Marathon registration is now open. $50 for the marathon -- $30 for the half -- through May 2. Limit of 5,000 entries in both races combined. Lots more information on the website.

Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the heads up on the marathon registration opening, I just signed up. This will be my first marathon and im looking forward to it.

Im also doing the Cary WakeMed 5K and the Run for the Oaks 5K this month. Im not expecting great times because ive been fairly slack lately because of travel and work but am working back into shape.

Re: Raleigh, NC Runners 2007!!!!!!!!!
I see they run the Raleigh marathon down Umstead's trails Graylon and Reedy Creek Trail. That makes the marathon a bit tougher. I would love to run the Raleigh marathon, but for now I'm forgoing marathons.

Signed up for Run for the Oaks. Still thinking of Cary Wake Med 5k race. I feel my speed increasing. Want to get 24 minutes or better.
