Re: Maine Runners
Just a post to keep things going...

Completed a 10 Mile LSR this morning -- The sunshine was great, but I could have done without the flies and gnats swarming around my head. Anyone know any runner's repellent or secret recipes that keeps the bugs at bay?

NYC Marathon Lottery is on Monday with results posted on the web Tuesday. Apparently, there were 98,000 applicants and only 30,000 or so slots. 1 in 3 chance to get in but I have my fingers crossed.

Re: Maine Runners
6.3 Miles this morning and it felt great -- 9 minute mile pace and a cool breeze...perfect.

NYC Marathon here I come...Lottery results are in and I made it! I didn't realize how hard it was to get in until talking to others about it. The fingers crossing thing worked out good this time (unlike MT Washington Road race).

Good luck to all those running the Mount Washington Road Race on Saturday. I wish I was running there with ya -- maybe next year.

Re: Maine Runners
Thank you...I'm pretty excited about it. I now have a firm goal and good reason for training.

Hey there Boothy how good to see that you are out and about. I was scheduled to run Docs but have been fighting a chest cold for three weeks that really knocked me for a loop after I foolishly did a 6 x .5 mile interval workout on Tuesday. No running for two days we'll see how I feel later this afternoon before I decide if I even run it at all let alone race it.

It is a really nice small race. There will be on-site registration starting at 5:30 in Doc's parking lot on Franklin Street in Biddeford. The cost of the race is $12 and the first 100 entrants get T-shirts. The course is mostly flat, there is a very small hill right at the start but you never really feel that one because of the excitement and adrenaline rush and then it is flat and slightly downhill untill just before the finish where you have one small hill again and then a small downhill followed by two short straight roads to the finish.

Good luck if you are headed out there for this one, I would really like to be there since this is the first race I had ever run after I started running.

Oh yeah "cpo" I'm headed to New York as well with two of my running partners here in Biddeford.

Re: Maine Runners
Are there any running trails near/south of Portland? I'll be headed to OOB in a few weeks and was hoping to find some trails to run on...

Thanks in advance-

Re: Maine Runners
I'm sorry I can't help with the trails in south portland Cheryl, but I've never been down there. Hopefully, you'll get a reponse from a local soon.

I've been on vacation for the past couple weeks so haven't been on here for awhile. I logged a 5.3 Mile Today and a 6.6 Mile yesterday -- this hot/humid weather is hurting. I ran for a few years down in Florida, but I don't think I ever felt as bad after those runs. I must have lost my tolerance for the heat siince living here in Maine these past few years. Y'all stay hydrated out there.

I received the e-mail from hannaford's wrt the B2B training runs on Tuesday evenings. I think I'll try and run in some of those. Anyone else thinking the same thing?

I haven't made it to a race yet this year. I'm still hoping to be at the LL Bean 10K on July 4. Anyone else running in that one? I hear it's a party all day and all night there. Good times.

Se ya on the roads.

Re: Maine Runners
5.5 Miles this morning and the cool breeze was a blessing. It felt good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, I registered for the LL Bean 10K so hopefully spending the 18.00 will motivate me to participate. I'm actually looking forward to it. A 7 Minute mile pace for the race is my goal.

Tomorrow I'll be in Bath as a volunteer for the Shipbuilder's Triathlon. Not sure what I'll be doing there yet, but I needed a reason to go spend time during their "Heritage Days" festival. It looks fun! Hopefully, I'll be a competitor in next year's triathlon.

Sunday's run will be 15 miles. It's been a few weeks since I have had a long run since I have been on vacation, but I'll be up early and on the roads by 6 am (probably more like 7). I'll be running my favorite loop from Brunswick to Wolf Neck Woods State Park and back if anyone is interested. 9 minute mile pace should do it.

Later,
Lonnie

Bob how are you doing I hope better then the last time I saw you???
<HR>

Hey there Boothy, I'm doing much better now, but whatever I had really kicked the **** out of me for a while there. I am still not back to where I was prior to getting sick but am well on my way. Between Doc's and the two 5K's I ran since I have been about 30 - 60 seconds behind what I was prior to getting sick.

I'll be running the LL Bean 10K and hope to be able to gauge where I am so that I can see if I have a chance at a sub 40 minute time at the Beach to Beacon...right now I'm not so sure it's in the cards this year.

Oh well there are some things you just can't control, at least now I can run without puking!!

Thanks for asking and see you out there some time.

Re: Maine Runners
Completed the 15 Miler this morning (though I got a late start), and the conditions were perfect -- very enjoyable. Also, rode my bike to Freeport and back for a total of 24 miles on Saturday. Lots of sales going on in Freeport if anyone is interested.

Bob, didn't know you were not feeling well, but it sounds like you're well on your way to recovery. I guess I'll see you in Freeport on Wednesday at the LL Bean 10K. I'll be looking for ya.

Also, started looking into travel plans for the NYC marathon. Do you have any recommendations on hotels/areas? I'm not sure whether to get a place in manhattan for approx 400/night or closer to the airport for 200/night. Where are y'all staying? I have also heard that craigs list has a few posts for lodging. I'm thinking air travel would be best as I'm not sure I want to fight the traffic.

Re: Maine Runners
Resting up for the 10K tomorrow morning. Yep, I'm cooking up some spaghetti for dinner and will have some extra glycogen in those muscles for a nice kick at the end.

See y'all in the morning.
