I thought it was just post-marathon pains, but I tried on my old shoes and my ankle no longer hurts. I guess my new Air pegasus' had about 250-300 miles on them, but I thought they would last longer than that.

I'm just glad it was only my shoes and not old age.

Lonnie, glad to hear that your problem was with the shoes and not a more serious physical injury. Sounds very similar to a problem I developed last fall after running the Bay State Marathon. I had bought new Asics Kayano's and developed some serious aches and pains in my knees and my feet. I went back to my old style Asics 2110's & 2120's and problem solved!

Good luck with your running and stay healthy.

Sugarloaf Marathon? Does anyone know if this is still going to happen? I searched for it and could not find anything.

It is in May. There is also a 15K. (I ran the 15K this year). It may just be too early.

I can't find anything online and I thought I had read some where that they were thinking of disbanding the race.

Yes and no. The old race director moved (to Portland area), so the initial thought was the Sugarloaf Marathon and 15K was going to fizzle. However, someone step in as the RD and the races have moved on.

The race is usually mid-May. I'm pretty sure that it's not posted now, but if you check the Maine Track Club website after 2008, they might post a link.

Re: Maine Runners
I just wanted to introduce myself to the rest of the runners on this board from Maine. I'm new to running, but not new to physical activity per se, having come from a local cycling group. That being the case, I have built up a fair amount of stamina, but I'm not crazy about taking my bike out in the winter and wearing layer upon layer for a workout that lasts half an hour due to darkness. I've decided to try something different this winter and see if I can get over my dislike of running (from my old Army days) in order to make it more a part of my fitness routine. So far, so good: it's been about a month and a half and I'm feeling pretty good about my decision. It's nice to be able to get dressed in a few layers and take to the streets just outside my door. A half hour of running I find is equal to an hour on the bike.

If anyone from the Auburn/Lewiston area would like to join me in my metamorphosis from cyclist to runner, I'd love to have a running partner to share my pain and push me to even higher levels. I'm doing about an 8-minute mile right now and I'd like to get to about 7:30 by the springtime. I get out when I can and use the treadmill at the gym when I work late or the weather is too bad to go out. I go out for about a half-hour at a time with a maximum of 50 minutes so far. I guess a reasonable goal would be to make my average run 45 minutes and eventually up to an hour. I am registered to do my first 5K this coming weekend and I'd like to run a few more next year and improve my time for each of them.

OK, enough about me. If you think you'd like a partner, drop me a line. I'll check back in a few days.

Re: Maine Runners

Its been 3 weeks since anyone posted in the Maine forum and still we are # 3 on the list. NO ONE must come here anymore. I am looking forward to both Beach to Beacon (my 2nd time) and the Eliot Festival 5K (my 3rd time). This year I did the Hope to Houses in Gorham, the Kennebunk Beach Classic and the Safe Passage 5K in Cumblerland. I am thinking about the Andy Turcotte fundraiser in Scarborough next weekend. I wonder how many people will be in that one.

Re: Maine Runners
I'm 14 years old, new to XC running but plan to run for my high school this fall. I will be spending about a month in Maine on Orrs Island and was wondering if there were any Maine runners in that area that would like to join me for some training. I am only running about 2 miles at the moment but may be capable of more by the time I come to Orrs Island in late July. I am just looking for some running company and some advise. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!::^0 :^0
