Looking for a track in Providence, RI

I'm training for a 10K and the race date is coming up, only 4 more weeks away! I'm trying to find a public (preferably free) track in the Providence area so that I can get some speed workouts in. Does anyone know of an indoor or outdoor track?

Thanks!

find out where the nearest high school is, hopefully you won't have to scale a fence to gain access to it. if you are lucky, they may even have it well lit. i'm one state over & my local high school track is clear of snow / ice, but not much light, which i don't mind, some might however. good luck.

Try the track at Rhode Island College. I've run there often.

If you're staying in Providence, you'll find tracks behind Hope High School on Hope St., just up from Thayer St. and Brown U. Brown might have an outdoor track as well. There is also a track behind Mt. Pleasant High School near R.I. College. Most high schools in R.I. have tracks. So if you're staying outside of Providence in another town or city (we don't think of any town or city in R.I. as being the Providence "area"--we are very specific about where we are and live and generally don't like to drive very far) just go to the nearest high school. The community colleges also have tracks both in and outdoor. Remember, nothing in R.I. is very far. The longest drive you'll ever make is about an hour.

The most reliable track as far as access is Hope High School. It is not far from Elmhurst area (1.5-2 miles, depending on route you take.) The surface is very good, and it is open 24/7. I have never been there after dark, but I have been told that there are lights in the evening. In the summer, they run a sprinkler system on the infield early in the morning (before 8am), which is great on really hot days. The only drawback is that there are no restrooms available, but there is always the Whole Foods just down the road in an emergency.
