Re: Raymond NH area runners
You've pretty much got it.
Mon-Fri runs are typically reserved for "maintaining fitness" and "repetition".. keeping the legs fresh and the mind sharp. I also do most of any speed work I do (IF any) during this time.

The weekend longrun is essential. I don't usually run 50K's EVERY week... most months I run 50K every OTHER weekend.. and on the opposing weekends I run two 16's.

Do I sleep during 100's?? A common question... I can't answer it yet, as I am running my 1st 100 next month. Do I plan to sleep? **** NO! Though I'm given 36 hours to complete the course... the goal is to do it in under 24 hours. Not many 100 mile runners sleep during the 100... though, it's not unheard of for very few others to do so.

I run in a pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR trailrunning shoes. I won't change them during the race... as I'm a poor guy who can barely afford race entrance fees let alone an extra pair of shoes. If I could.. I'd change then around mile 60 or 70 in the race. However, I'll change my socks and re-grease my feet with vaseline 2 to 3 times during the race to maintain foot health.

So many people have major blister problems during ultras and... this I don't understand. I find that if I clip my toenails as short as I can, wear the proper socks (Smartwool Adrnenaline Mini-crew) and shoes THAT FIT... I don't have any blister issues. And so far... so good. We'll see what 100 miles is like... it may be too much for my feet to handle afterall.

Hey,

After 20 Miles Friday, 30 on Saturday... the Eastern States went better than I expected. I finished the 20 miles in 3:30 flat. Great weather too.

I will indeed be at Great Bay though I'm not registered. Lots of runners will be there. I hope to run it in 2 hours or slightly less. You??

Do you 'bandit' all your races?

Re: Raymond NH area runners
Nope...

I bandited the UNH Homecoming 5K back in the fall and recently the Eastern States 20 Miler. These are the only two races I've ever bandited and the only two I ever will. I didn't end up running Great Bay for this very reason.

I sent a letter of appology to the RD of the Eastern States race and will be a volunteer at next years event to make even with him.

I never saw what was wrong with banditing a race since I see quite a few bandits in every road race I've run in... I figured it was a normal thing to do... until some of the folks here on this board explained to me otherwise.

Thanks for your concern.
