Bay Area Runners

Its Spring and its time to start a new Bay Area thread.

We should connect for a fun run or a race sometime.
I'm looking at running some of these races over the next few months. I've run them all in the past and they're pretty much the same: happy at the start; nice scenery, huff n' puff, huff n' puff; out-to-fast, out-to-fast, omygod, omygod, pain, pain, finish line, hooray!

Apparently we are not a very exciting group. Would like to come to one of them, but I have something else - non-running, or the long miles getting ready for BSIM for every one of those events, although the Skyline Ridge Half could be a good taper run.... I will have to think about that one.....

I'll bite...

I'm enjoying the newly-arrived nicer weather and thinking about a 5K or slightly longer on the Peninsula in April...anyone know of a good one?

LOL - I guess we are kinda' boring.

I've got my race schedule locked in (a couple trail runs in March & April) before the Flying Pig HM in early May. I'm thinking I'll need a mental break for a couple weeks afterward, though Diablo in June does sound intriguing. I'll have to think about that one too...

Naomi - the trail run at Skyline Ridge in the middle of April that was mentioned above is sold out. However, there is Pat's Run in San Jose (a 4.2 miler; indeed, slightly longer than a 5K) at the end of April http://www.patsrun.com/[/URL" target="_blank">

Tom, Steve, everybody - I'm doing a complete base rebuild and am not racing right now. When I do get around to it, I'm inclined to Saturdays since I'm playing old fat guys' baseball on Sundays (although as it stands now we have a load of players and I should be able to skip out here and there ... not so last season) But, if folks decide on a Sunday event I'd hate to miss meeting up. Let's see where it goes.

Almost forgot to mention, I have a previously planned trip to slog the half at Ave of the Giants on 5/5. Anyone doing that one?

Posted this there tooo.
Point Lobos, is a great place to run, figure it will take about 2 - 3 miles, depending on where you stay in Carmel to get there, which might solve your 18 miler. Just be very, very careful running along Highway 1, speed limit is 55mph, so figure folks are cranking along above that, but the shoulder is very wide.

Check out the places they suggest.
Also check out Roach Canyon park.

Anyone doing the bay to breakers. I am from the East Bay. Should I take BART? Do I need to pre-purchase the $7 Muni ride to go back to the starting line?

You can - despite the buildup at peak times, the line moves fairly fast and you're in with your fellow runners i.e. they understand why you're all sweaty and smelly.

However, you don't have to - for $1.50, you can take the 5 Fulton (north of GGP) or the N-Judah line (south of GGP) back downtown; however, be prepared for standing-room crowded buses and mean stares from regular passengers. If you choose this option, it might be better to stay at the post-run festivities for awhile, depending on how fast you do the course.

Another option, if you want to extend your run and don't need to bother with the post-run festivities, is to finish the run and continue onward back on Lincoln Way and then south on Sunset to Taraval to catch the blissfully uncrowded L-Taraval line train (about 3 additional miles.)

Hey is it true the weather is always 50-70 degrees year round allowing you to run just about everyday of the year? I'm considering moving to SF just for this very reason.

Sorry to crash your thread Bay area. Looking for running trails in San Jose, thought I might get lucky here. Any advice? Thanks!
