Chicago Couch to 5k runners?

I'm usually in the "newbie cafe" but just wanted to see if there are any members here from the southside of Chicago? I live near Midway airport and was hoping to find a running partner once it gets a bit warmer outside. I'm currently running on a treadmill working with the couch to 5k program.

Hi Wendy. I'm Sean and I live on the north side. I'm a solitary runner, so I can't really be of any help, but I just thought I'd say hi.

Also running outside will be a lot harder!

Pleanty of events I usually pick up Windy city Sports they have a pretty good list.

Good luck on running. Most runners I know can either leave me in the dust or well most others are just not runners and cannot understand why I do it. Oh yeah I am slowwwww haha.

Hello,

Perry here. I'm a solo Chicago joggler and frequent the lakepath from North Ave up to Montrose mostly. So, if you see a juggling runner this spring or summer, just say "hi". It won't be of much help to you Wendy but just thought I'd check it too.

Wendy, don't worry about how slow you run. With the hundreds or thousands, maybe even millions of runners on the Lakefront each day, no one will notice or remember how slow you run. A plus is that the Lakefront may be one of the safest places to run.

Perry, jogglers are so annoying. :-)

April 22nd Lisle Run for Education 5k

I say being slow is better than sitting and doing nothing at all.

I would love to get brave enough to drive into the city and run the lake front one day. Always think about it when I drive out there.

I am a Northsider too.

I tend to run with Fleet Feet and Momentum when I do group runs. Otherwise I run solo around the Northside. I don't really have any particular paths. Kind of just where my brain and legs take me. I run the lakefront sometimes, but the bikers tend to scare me.

As for races there are plenty of 5K's comming up. The official season just started with the Shuffle, though I did two 5K's before that 8K. I am a penguin runner, but I like to run nonetheless. Just comming off of an injury.

Anyway there are plenty of races comming up in the city. I know mostly of northsde ones, but I'm sure htere are some in Hyde Park. There is one in Pilsen comming up in May.

That should be a good start for races.

Funny,
My allergies are much better since moving here. I'm from Florida originally. Here everything DIES for half the year.

Oh and if you are looking for an easy first race (though it is all the way up north from you, close to me at Montrose Harbor) The Wondergirl 5K put on by Girls On The Run is a non-competitive race (no clocks, everyone gets a medal at the end) and it benefits GOTR. It is June 2, 2006. I'm on the race comitte. I believe the website for info is http://www.gotrchicago.org/[/URL" target="_blank"> .

I'm about to head out for a run. The rest of the week is supposed to be nasty and I want to hit the lakeshore one day over the spring break. I may just run the hood though, we'll see.

I love the Wonder Girl 5K race. My wife and I are going to do the Ravenswood 5K at the end of April.

And Wendy, don't worry so much about the lakefront. There aren't many who look goofier than a guy running while juggling.
