"Many say 20 miles is sufficient. Others, like Mr. Galloway, recommend conquering at least the full marathon distance in training. Still, whatever the distance of the longest long run, novices can?t go from zero to 26 miles overnight, which is why most plans are at least 12 weeks long, and some last up to 30 weeks. What?s more, most coaches and exercise physiologists recommend against even starting a marathon program until you have regularly run shorter distances for a couple of years. "

IMO, the difference between the elite athlete doing 20miler long runs and others is that at the same distance, the elite athlete is not struggling to complete the run, and they have more than one speed at which to complete the 20-miler, slow medium fast... so by the time they do the 26 miles, it's just a matter or how fast will they RACE it in.

Hey I didn't post it...

How come no one took pics of the food?

So summer racing is here... There's a race every weekend in this province, you can race twice/weekend if you wanna venture into other sports... What's everyone doin' and when? Who's going to Whiteface this year? Someone has to bring back some burgers...!

Merc, how big is your car? Will you be my designated duck transporter this year? And I'm not talking about the ones in Beaver Lake...

Just checked my entry info DR, and horror of horrors, I entered the 20K. What could I have been thinking! (slap, slap......the sound of me slapping my face!) Since it's the day before my birthday, maybe I'll have some luck and complete it, but since it's traditionally very hot there, the DUCK will come from the IGA.(or Chinatown)

Amen to that Gro..last one, long week.

Small group for track last evening, I was all over the place in my "pacing"...the humidity has us sweating buckets..not complaining, it will just take a little getting use to..

Good luck to racers this weekend - df

Ugh... Duck from chinatown... I`m still recovering from the peking duck meal for 6 TB and I ate by ourselves...in early 2006. "Meal for 6" my @$$... (and that's where it all went!)

BTW The IGA duck is from Lac Brome!!!

20k, that's a walk around a pond for you.

I'm counting on you to come in first and win that duck! (de-feathered pls)

Assuming I win anything, which is a BIG assumption, the duck will be long gone before I get home.

Congratulations to everyone who ran in Pierrefonds this morning (including me, heh, heh).

Merc, TB, Kneejerk, Mr. Kneejerk, Kneejerks' friend... did I miss anyone?

Sorry I didn't stick around for the 5K start: I went straight to my car to get my magic anti-coughing potion (warm water, honey, lemon... only,...I swear!) and then just packed it all up and went home.

As for my run, I went slower than last time. I tried to hold on my pace but by 7K's I was starting to slip. Pacing is so tricky. I probably went out a little harder than I should have and fizzled out near the end. A classic story.

It was super fun, nonetheless, and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Who's going slow and long tomorrow?

Don't be too hard on yourself KZ. The conditions were less than ideal. Anyone hoping to PR today was dreaming. The humidity just knocked the stuffing out of everyone. My first 5K was an easy 18:25 but I was only 39:20 something at the end and, I have to confess, entertained the thought of dropping out more than once. It was difficult to get any oxygen into the system as the air was very thick, so congrats anyway. Same to the others, Ninja, KJ / friend and I know I must be forgetting someone. Sorry. Pics on the way after I ice-up / sleep.
