Minnesota Runners

Looks to be a great weekend for running.

What races are people running this weekend or do you plan on just putting in more training miles?

No races for me this weekend.

A little speedwork tomorrow and probably 10 to 15 on Sunday.

Heading for Fargo to do the half the following weekend.

Hi Hermosaboy,

I'd like to hear a race report on the Fargo Half, please. How is the course? How are the crowds? How are the logistics? I'm considering it for a spring half next year.

I would recommend it. Nice small, but well organized race. Crowd support is surprisingly good. Course is favorable. There are a few minor hills (more like over/under passes).

Negatives -- I think the courses (both full and half) were long this year due to a last minute change because of flooding. Also, watch out for the wind! It was pretty bad this year. Fairly sustained in the 20s and gusting into the 30s. Not sure how, but it never seemed to be at my back.

I won't be there next year because I plan to head west for a marathon the same day, but would definitely consider doing it again!

Thanks Joesph -- I am working on it...

I can't recall -- What do you have on tap next? Grandma's?

Ran it last year (and plan to do it again this year). There are some hills, but all in all I think it's a good course. The miles that killed me were like 3 - 5. Dirt roads and a bit hilly.

You do have a couple of downhills that you can take advantage of though...

Maybe I will see you there?

This year it will be the 9th time we are running the Lumberjack Days 10miler - love it! The "biggest" hill is from mile 3.5 to about 5 with quite a steep climb from 3.5 to 4. Other than that it's not really hilly and a nice downhill at +- mile 7 (give the legs a bit of a break!)

Every year the number of runners increase so the biggest challenge is to find parking in downtown Stillwater - I would suggest that you get there quite early to find good parking

Seeya all there!.

Good news for Lumberjack course. They paved much more of that road (Arcola trail). At least another mile. There is still dirt but a lot less.

I bet that nasty hill section is still dirt.

That is good news though, going to take a shot at finally going under an hour this year...

It is tar to the high bridge. I beleive that means the hill is tar now. To close to Grandma's for me to try under an hour(and usually too hot). I am going to take a shot at it at the Freedom 10 in White Bear in November.

Hello... I am VERY new to running. I haven't done it - ever - but am setting goals for the future. I turn 40 next year and though it would be great to do a 5K for my 40th (just l am looking to finish). I haven't completely committed to it yet but am interested in the Minnesota Mile in July. Is there any advise anyone could suggest??? I have an eliptical machine at home and work on that "most" days as well as walk/running around the neighborhood as my daughter rides her bike. I am looking for some modivation so I won't loose focus. I have printed off the "Couch to 5K" training program and am looking to follow it. Any advice???
