Houston Runners

Any runners in the Houston area out there? What are you currently training for? I'm getting ready for Chicago in October and possibly Houston in January.

Re: Houston Runners

Houston Area runner here. I'm not training for a race at this time just trying to keep my trail legs under me.

We use to have a large thread in the Neighborhood. It's been some time since I have seen anything about Houston here.

Just back from an awesome Astros game.

Re: Houston Runners

I'm in Houston. I don't qualify as a "runner" yet but I'm getting there. I am currently training for a 5k. And then I plan to decide whether I will train for a marathon.

Any suggestions?

Re: Houston Runners

I usually run local trails and along drainage canals in the Baytown area. I try to go to Memorial's Ho Chi Mihn Trails at least once a week. This coming Saturday I hope to be able to run with Houston Trail Runners Extreme @ Memorial.
Trunx- You run trails? Anybody else?

Re: Houston Runners

We run up to 20 miles at times. We always loop back toward the parking lot every hour or so. This Sat. will be my first time back running with the group in about eight months. It will be fun.

Re: Houston Runners

I have ran the trails there but no races. I will be running the Rocky Racoon 50K in November.

Re: Houston Runners

Freedom please, My wife is currently doing the Couch to 5K on week 9. She is doing very well training for her first 5K. Check with some of the local running stores and clubs. They all have some type of group marathon training plans.

Re: Houston Runners

I totally forgot that this group was here. You would have solved my minor dillema.

Here's the story. I completed the C25k and ran a 5k in Galveston last weektime 35:32. Now I plan to start training for the Houston Marathon on Tuesday. I know I could attempt the half-marathon but I am turning 30 and I thought I'd go all out. But I don't have the money to join a marathon training program. So I purchased Hal Higdon's bookwhich is greatand I am going at this alone.

Here is where you come in. Is there any area groups that I can do long runs with on the weekends?

I currently do my short runs at the gym and my long runs on a neighborhood track. Overall, my experience with training alone as been great. I love running alone, and my family normally accompanies me at the track for my long runs.

Ok...I will wait for your feedback. Thanks.

--

Re: Houston Runners

freedomplease,
What part of town are you in? If you are in the Clear Lake Area I would recommend Clear Lake Fitness Club. Most of the running clubs have group runs. Give me an idea of your area and I will help you find a group.

Re: Houston Runners

Thanks. I am minutes from Hobby. I may check this group out. I'm not familiar with the area but the directions seem un-complicated.

Please add other suggestions if you have them.

Re: Houston Runners

Just wanted to stop by and intro myself. I am in Clear Lake. I am on my second week of C25K. I was thinking of running the old golf course in clear lake but would love to know how long it is. Are there devices you can use for this to measure distance?

Re: Houston Runners

I use a Garmin Forerunner 305. Look it up. It works great. It would be nice to run on a golf course. Where in Clear Lake is this course? Are they still using it for golf? Whenever you can avoid the concrete and hit the trails. The Seabrook trails are nice.
