Bless me group for I have sinned...I have been absent. (With excuse)

OK,
{size}{font}

{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black} Sorry I have been away. I have been on the road pretty much non stop for over a month. No Excuses.{font}{color}

{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}I have been training, hoping to get that 100 mile run in this summer........then $%#^ I am hurt. No running.{size}{font}

{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}I have been having some leg pain, thought I might just need a little rest, this came out of nowhere really.{font}{color}

{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}At first I was disappointed about not being able to run for a while, now I am worried about ever running again!

What are your experiences with pain in the leg and calve from sciatica?
{size}{font}

{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}{font:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica}{size:2}{color:black}
Right now; walking around the house, going to the gym to lift, swimming
for 45 minutes or even riding my bike for 2 hours, I have NO pain.
None, zero.
I don't even feel as though I am injured! I just go
about my daily business around the house without a problem. I have been
enjoying some time off, and spending my time at home. No
worries........

But if I walk around the store or outside
for 10-15 minutes or more without sitting, I get pain so intense I feel
I might pass out! It feels as though my calve is torn apart. My entire
leg gets numb and aches so bad I cant walk anymore.
I have to sit
and wait 5-10 minutes.......and then the pain goes away entirely. Start
walking=instant pain again. It takes me 20 minutes to get back to the
car. If I give it 15 minutes, I am back to good, and can resume normal
activities.

I have been to the Doctor they did an X-ray, and
told me I have a compressed L5-S1, do some PT (starts tomorrow) and
"You'll be running again in no time"
But I am NO better off more than a week later.

Until
the last couple of days I actually thought I might be healed! When I
was just walking around the house and going to 7-11, I had no issues
for days. I assumed I was "over it"
Until I started the Xmas shopping then, EVERY TIME I walk around a store=horrible pain.

Now I don't expect that any of you have actually read this far, but if
you have: I assume you are a saint or a sufferer, or both. Either way I
would appreciate any advice or experiences you have had!

I am going to talk to the Dr. tomorrow but I am very nervous.

I really don't want my last marathon to be my last marathon.

Ok, I'm not expert, and my sciatica presented differently to yours - I could not sit down without being in complete agony, driving was a nightmare, sitting through lectures was horrible (pain was in my backside, not the leg). But I credit Hot Yoga with clearing the whole thing up. Have barely had a twinge since. Only did 3 or 4 sessions. Obviously the heat made the difference to loosen up whatever was causing the pain. Of course, your problem could be completely different and this may not help at all, but just thought I'd share my experience anyway!!

Can't read your post, but I can make sense of Ella's, who obviously deciphered yours. So, Sciatica... Sciatica blows. I've had it, or maybe it is Piriformis, since Boston Marathon 2005. It just wont go away. Although I have not seen a massage therapist, I have applied deep tissue techniques, especially in stretching, on myself. Has it worked? I don't know. But stretching and massaging in that way makes me feel like it might be doing something, but still, I'm not convinced.

However, something I am fairly certain of that does work. When my good friend Sciatica barks his presence, a solid session on the Trainer pushing a big gear seems to get deep into his heart and softens him up. I kid you not. It's my only surefire way to get him to shut the f' up. So maybe try hitting the Trainer to stretch deeply the muscles in the legs.

First of all trust your doc and PT rather than me. However my first thought, like Thor, is Piriformis.

Pirformis is a small muscle in your butt. It surrounds the sciatica nerve. When the Piriformis gets over used, often from running a lot, it complains by cramping up and pinching the sciatica nerve.

The normal recommendation is to take a tennis ball, put it on the floor and then sit on the ball and roll around. In essence, giving yourself a butt massage.

It is a common injury with runners, and sometimes goes away fast, other times the injury lingers for quite a while.

You are doing the right thing by seeing a PT.

Interesting. Riding my bike is about the only thing that still bothers my sciatica/piriformis/mystery pain in the behind!!
