Death Valley Marathon, December 2007..Anyone going??

My target marathon was the Valley of Fire in Nevada, but it got cancelled. I'm pushing my schedule back 2 weeks to run Death Valley on December 1. Anyone else running?

I am thinking about it. I signed up for Long Beach on October 14th, but it's only 6 weeks after Pike's Peak ascent. I am thinking about changing to the Half and run Death valley instead. It gives me a little more time to recover and gives me time before Boston in April.

I ran it two years ago and won my age division because the fast runners all chose to be in different age-groups. It's pretty spectacularly bleak and the weather is usually great from running as long as the wind doesn't blow too hard.

DV is indeed an out and back (for those who live to come back )

It finishes on a long upslope after a few turns through some rock outcroppings about a mile from the finish.

There are parts where you can see quite a long way ahead, but for the last 5 or 6 miles it's not one of those where you see the finish that appears to be getting further away.

I noticed that there is one in february as well. That one seems to be on trails. Any idea which one is better?

I imagine the one on trails has a whole bunch more elevation change than the one in December, but I can't say for sure.

Here are some shots of the December one.
