Disney Marathon questions

I'd like to hear from others who have run the Disney Marathon. I'm training for it now. I'm very excited that some family members will be there to cheer me on. I'm wondering if it's possible for them to move ahead on the course to meet me at certain checkpoints. Is there transportation for spectators? Or if they see me once, is that it till the finish line?

I'm also curious if anyone out there ran Disney as their first marathon? How was it? Was it fun?

Thanks in advance for responses.

Re: Disney Marathon questions
I ran it 4 years ago as my first marathon. I had a blast and by mile 23 was saying I want to do this again!! My only goal was to finish, I had no time goal. Enjoy every park and soak it all in. This will be an event you will never forget. I am going back in Jan. to do the Goofy Challenge and as a celebration of 5 years of marathoning. Also, my husband will be doing his first marathon. He was only able to see me at the 10 mile mark. According to him spectators getting around is difficult because so amny roads are closed. He was at the finishline but, was unable to see me finish because of all the people. I would sit down with your family and look at the course and pick a place for them to see you. If I remember right the 10 mile maker was an excellant spot, it was just before you go into the magic kingdom. I was able to see them very easily as they were able to spot me easily too!!! Enjoy it! And have fun with it!!!! Hopefully you are staying on resort grounds and will be able to take the shuttle to the start line. When I did it 4 years ago, my shuttle bus got lost and we barely made it to the cutoff for the bag drop! I was nervous about not getting there but a vetern sitting with me reassured me we would get there with time to spare.
Good Luck!

Re: Disney Marathon questions
You can jump around on the monoral, and buses are provided as well to the park, like Animal Kingdom and MGM... If you are a spectator, you will get a wristband that will allow you temporary entry into the park to spectate and see your runner.

I did the half last year, then spectated for the full. I got around the course on monorail.

I didn't want to waste time waiting for the buses, so I jumped back and forth between a few of the monorail stops, and the finish line. I had quite a few runners to cheer on, so I made sure I was seeing them all at some point in the course, then getting to the finish to cheer them all in

Plus it was fun to cheer for the people I didn't know.

Re: Disney Marathon questions
My son and I ran Disney in 2006 as our first marathon (we are headed to Chicago next month for number 2). We had a blast - even though the final few miles were really tough.

Our family was able to see us just after the start outside Epcot - but they had to be in the proper location due to the split start. Then, they had breakfast and were able to watch us run through the Magic Kingdom - obviously, we were not running very fast (around 10 per mile at that point). They chose not to follow to the other parks - instead they took the monorail back to Epcot and watched us finish, although, it was quite crowded right at the finish line.

Keep in mind that the monorail only runs between Epcot and the Magic Kingdom area. There are several viewing areas in between those two points but to get to the other parks or resort areas you will need to use the bus system which may not be quick enough due to the re-routed traffic.

Disney did a great job with providing plenty of atmosphere along the entire course which made is a special event for both of us.

Good luck and enjoy the experience.

Re: Disney Marathon questions
The WDW 2007 Marathon was my first, and supposed to be my last, marathon. But after running it I decided that I had to do it again, and now I'm preparing for the 2009 Goofy.

I think what really makes this marathon special is the course. Just as you are getting tired of the 3 mile stretch of road you've been running, you enter a theme park or other area of interest. In particular, the last 5 miles or so, where you need the most encouragement, consists of running through the Disney Studios theme park, the EPCOT resorts area, and then finally EPCOT, with spectators cheering you on almost the entire time.

Keegan
I just finished the Disneyland 1/2 in Sept. Awesome time, But poweraid was our sponser and we had blue poweraide and cliff shots. I would check the website to find out who is a sponser, that will tell you what you're looking to enjoy.
