Fat former runner looking for a running group in Boston

I'm a native Bostonian, and in my college days had a great running route around the esplanade on the Charles river- These days- 10 years later and 80 pound heavier, i try and retrace that route, but find myself walking half the way....If I could run along the Charles with a group of people, my confidence would certainly improve..
Im looking for a running group in Boston- but perhaps one where there are people like me- who have weight and are trying to lose it, or had weight and lost it, and have been in my shoes......

I'd be a bit too intimidated to join a running group of all marathon runners who have always been fit, they'd leave me in the dust...I'm not the fastest runner on the block...

Hi TE!

I know this is a while after you initially posted but in answer to your questions, I've been considering Boston Luna Chix and Community Running. There are links to both on this site under the Resources tab > Running Clubs link > select "MA" of course...

I think the Luna Chix have stopped their Wednesday runs but will resume in the spring, iirc. I think Community Running has just started their December training session but this seems to be a welcoming group (based on what I gleaned from their website). Perhaps I will see you there... that is, if I get off my *** and actually join a group (money is a little tight right now)... heh
