HELP!! TURF TOE!

I am fifteen years old and I am an avid runner and soccer player. During the Cross Country season and the track season I also play travel soccer after I run. In the winter I only play soccer.

From all the cutting you perform on a soccer field, I have developed turf toe in both feet. (Hyper extension of the ligament that connects your big toe to the ball of your foot)

It is extremely painful to run on and as track season has progressed I have tried to work out as best I can, but it just hurts!

I was wondering if anyone had ANY advice for more, and also could anyone suggest a good pair of running shoes for a girl with super high arches, turf toe, and a VERY narrow foot? I would appreciate ANYTHING. Thanks.

Are your shoes very tight? If so, that may be what is causing the turf toe.

Also, if you have high arched feet, you should be wearing a neutral-cushioning shoe, because normally a high arched foot is a rigid foot, so you don't need any motion-control features, you just need maximum cushioning.

You also should consider orthotics. Custom orthotics can be a great help to someone with high arched feet, but make sure they aren't made of hard plastic, like those you get from a podiatrist or many physical therapists. They would just make the problem worse. Look for a good certified pedorthist in your area, which you can do by going to: cpeds.org.

For anyone considering orthotics, (you should if you are a runner putting on 25-30 plus miles per week or are over 35-40 years old, or if you have either low arches or high arches), take a look at a very informative article I found at:
