Hamstring - HELP!

I've been having trouble with my right hamstring for about a month and have been stretching it out every other day. I'm training for a half marathon (just started the 15 week program) and I'm wondering what I should do about it. There is some pain but never when I run (just before and after). Is this going to be a problem during my half or will I be fine? Should I be doing something different? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much!

Lisa

Re: Hamstring - HELP!
Well proper warm up and ice after your run. If it does not bother you when you actually run a good sign . It appears to tighten up therafter....Common........ I used some skipping exercises to loosen them up so if you can tolerate the laughter of the neighborhood kids you might try it. Also use the " stick " or a rolling pin on the hamstring.

You might want to consider compression ( ace bandage) during the runs but not to tight. Sit ups can assist the lower back and loosen everything up.

As for your 1/2 if it is OK when you run why not ? Many hamstring injuries stop you right in your tracks so it doesn't sound too serious.

Good luck !!

Re: Hamstring - HELP!
In the past I've managed to keep such hamstring tweaks completely in check by taking one Aleve after each medium/longer run--in my case, three tablets a week (Wed/Fri/Sun). The problem basically dried up and went away. You might try this. Pick your most stressful runs and take an Aleve after you've had a post-run meal. No Aleve on recovery/easy/shorter days.
