Fractured Vertabrae

I recently fractured a vertabra (sp?) in my back in a snowmobiling accident. But, after taking about a week off from running I have started running again. It doesn't really hurt my back to run, but I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this or just has any advice. How long should it take to heal? When will I be able to run without any more pain at all? Thanks in advance!

Re: Fractured Vertabrae
My son fractured a vertebra in a soccer collision. This was a transverse process fracture, so the part that broke was where the muscle attached, not the part around the spinal cord. This is considered a minor injury. It was his 3d lumbar vertebra. Which vertebra did you break? I assume you've seen an MD? My son was in excruciating pain for about 5 days post injury. Then he could move very gingerly for a week or two after that. His doctor said he could resume full activity between 8 and 11 weeks post injury. He thought he was ready around 6 weeks, but the doctor made him wait.

It's important not to rush back into running or anythng else, because of the stresses on your spine (as in muscles pulling on the bones and preventing the ends from knitting together). I strongly suggest that you follow your doctor's plan, even if it seems really conservative.
