Top of arch pain

So the other day, I came down with a new (to me) running injury. The top of my arch aches when I run. Specifically, it is the front part of the arch (closer to the toes). The pain comes when I lift my foot off the ground. I don't know the proper term for it but it is when I "flex" my toes to lift my foot up. Okay, flex isn't the right word but hopefully you understand what I am getting at. As I sit here, if I pull my toes up toward my leg, I can feel the pain.

I have done some reading on this site and others. The only thing I've seen is that some people have pain on the top of the foot if they tie their shoe too tight. I definitely don't do that. Also, I read that if it is some sort of stress fracture that it will be painful to the touch. Mine isn't painful to touch at all.

I haven't changed my training, shoes, or done anything differently. Well, I started lifting weights again but I don't think my measly squatting or deadlifting is going to cause pain like this... I think.

Any ideas on this one? Just some sort of sore tendons on the top of the foot? Suck it up and go see a doctor?

Thanks!

yeah i get this problem too mate.... and its definatly the shoes. Apparently it may be something called a bone spur where the bone on the top arch of the foot has grown too much due to continued pressure on it in the past from something. My advice would be to go to a specialist running shoe shop, tell them about the problem and change your running shoes, which is what im going to do in the next week or so.

Thanks for the information as my symptons sound very similar to yours. I have cut my mileage down, iced it, and been taking anti-inflammatory medicine but it still seems to linger. I'm planning to replace my shoes tomorrow so I am hoping that'll do the trick.
