Knee Arthritis

I will try to keep this brief!

I had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and turns out I have arthritis at the ripe old age of 30. Cartilage is just cracked at this point. The doc cleaned it out during the surgery. This is just in my left knee.

I am getting Synvisc injections and taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin. The Ortho says it's ok to keep running on it. Although I had a different Ortho give me my 2nd Synvisc injection today and he gave that idea the big thumbs down.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar diagnosis and has kept running. I am hoping to at least be able to run occasionally, even if not back to my 20 mile weeks anymore. I think I'll be happy with anything at this point!

So.... any input?

Re: Knee Arthritis
2percenter,

I am a 45 year old male that has had miniscus surgery on both knees in addition to several other knee injuries. I have never been diagnosed officially with arthritis, but know that I probably have it to some degree. I have great success with strength training to keep the quads and hamstrings strong. I also take Osteo Bi-flex and have been running relatively pain free for the past two years. Also, although the wearing of knee straps usually gets a bad rap on these boards, I have had wonderful success with the Cho-Pat dual action knee strap. I do not wear it when I run, but put them on whenever my knees ache the least bit and they bring great relief. I have read some testimonials of others that wear theirs when they run and have been fine. I wish you luck!!!!
