Here or KR?

I only got up the nerve to post a few times before the migration but all of you made me feel welcome. I was just over at KR & there a couple of people complaining about the people moving over. I know there are always a few people unhappy but it really turned me off to that site. I think I'll hang around here & hopefully feel more welcome. Also, they were saying there are too many rules here. What are the rules? If I've only been running 1 yr. should I not post here? I'm very confused.

As I said I don't post often but lurk every day & get my motivation from here. Can I stay? Pleeeeeese. ?:|

Re: Here or KR?

Welcome Vkay, of course you can stay (unless you are related to ER) we welcome almost everyone. I was a member of boomers on the day it started, but I don't know yet if I will stay here or not. I'm still deciding where I am most comfortable, but I don't think I have time to visit multi forui. I hope this gets sorted out soon , but again welcome.

So tell us about your running. where do you live?

Re: Here or KR?

Don't worry about the rules! If Spareribs asks for money, I am the treasurer, send it to me!

Don't worry about Labduck either. Post in KR if you want to.

But KR is failing and hacked about every three days.

So it's a tough call.

I watching both.

Welcome, Vicki! :)

I am still figuring out how everything works here, so you and I are in the same boat.

Re: Here or KR?

Just want to let everyone know, that kick has not been hacked.

Its a good problem! Due to the increased traffic, we are being required to move to a dedicated server.

Thats whats in process right now. See the "Kick Update" thread for more information.

If you have any questions, email me at sierra@kickrunners.com

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Re: Here or KR?

I think that this place will be OK once we all get used to the look-feel-smell of this site. That is if enough stay around long enough to get used to it. A lot of people are probably still trying to find the forum. It took me a while then once I got here, I bookmarked the page to ensure that I could get back.

Welcome and hang in there with the rest of us. I might put a new coat of paint on these walls. A different color might just brighten up this place. Maybe some holiday colors?

Re: Here or KR?

Vicki, good for you! I'm also in your age group and had very limited experience when I first clicked in here. I set a goal and I got lots of help to reach it. The inspiration here sometimes became overwhelming for me. Just enjoy. I don't think you have to choose a flavor right now or ever.

One note of caution. Some of these guys are wise and some are otherwise. You might want to pop over to the 50s thread and dip a toe in. Lots of wise guys there and I think it's a little girl light right now. If I used an emoticon it would be winking.

Re: Here or KR?

I was having some trouble deciding which site to go with. KR has a nicer interface and that all important button that takes you to the latest unread post. But Labduck made it clear that we are not welcome there so it made my decision easier.

Re: Here or KR?
How 'bout both?

I pretty much started running when I stumbled on CR in Dec 05. I had a coupla false starts and a stress fracture in the year leading up to that going it on my own.

So I owe much to this community in no uncertain terms. To any of you who are just starting out I highly recommend finding a group online, off-line, CR, KR, or whatever and be a good citizen if you want to survive the process with the least amount of resistance and the most amount of fun.

When Active.com bought(?) CR I figured there would be some turmoil, some things better, somethings worse -ce la vie. Its the community that counts, the interface while important is not my primary concern. In August, when this brewhaha started ,a smallish group migrated to KR for various reasons (beautiful plumage I might add). I and many double-posted, but I confess my posting vitality was spent in KR. Its just easier to talk in a smaller group for me. CR has exploded in size since I joined which is GREAT, but it wasn't meshing as well with my personal social shortcoming as you will. So my little fantasy would be to see a multiple of sub groups within the masters umbrella, miraclulously arise with high intergration yet with smaller homebases or comfort groups to be centered in that wasn't defined by age, milage, time zone, but just a natural spreading out. Lots of free interaction as one is inclined but few restrictions or obligations. Maybe, if this is best ,it will evolve naturally as conditions in cyber space alternate between bumpy and smooth. Hopefully we can all make it through the bumps to smoother days.

Thanks for the ear

JJJ

That was an unfortunate post, but don't let it scare you away, Dave. Nobody in that forum "owns" it. I'd hate to see the community fragmented in any case. KR has its own set of problems and has been offline for me again since last night with those attacks they're suffering.

Re: Here or KR?
I guess I am confused. I dont know what was said or why.

But I do want to make sure that everyone understands that anyone and everyone who wants to participate at Kickrunners is welcome.

Actually, thats exactly the reason that we are moving to a dedicated server! It will allow us to be able to accomodate all the recent newcomers without losing any performance! It will also give us more bandwidth, more security and be much faster. Overall, we are doing it to make Kickrunners a better experience for YOU!

The site was NOT hacked, and that is not the reason its down right now. The reason its down is because it has been on a shared server up to now. The huge increase in traffic over the past week has required us to move to a dedicated server. That came up yesterday. We tried to do everything we could to keep it up, but it didnt work. It will be back up sometime mid week once they get the server built and the data transferred. (apparently thats the way it happens, I'm not techie enough to know how those things work)

Here is the thread with more details on the server move. http://community.active.com/thread/10760?tstart=0

Re: Here or KR?

I agree with JJJessee. Why not both? I'm not a big poster. I do have my favorite threads, that I will occasionally post to. I do enjoy reading both places. I'm not sure what LabDuck was trying to say. Sometimes the humor goes over my head. If he was serious, I think it was just grumbling about change, but that going to happen to both places no matter where the majority of Coolrunners/B&Bers end up.

Re: Here or KR?
I was less impacted by what Labduck wrote (which I suspected was a common thought anyway) but by what Runinbehind (I think that's her name) wrote. I was a bit floored by her post. She seemed decidedly upset by the influx, and, well, kind of hostile about it. I felt like I needed to apologize for posting there when CR was down. She said that that was downright rude. I certainly didn't intend it to be that way - I was sort of thinking we were invited to visit and check out the site.

I don't want to go where I'm not welcome, and barge in on someone's space. So, I'm still hoping they will get it together here. Otherwise, I may just give up running forums and actually do something productive with my time (after a good crying jag).

Vicki, in my opinion, you are welcome to post here as much as you want, about any darn thing you want to post about. The whole "rules" thing is just a joke, nothing real at all. However, if you WANT to send me cookies, well, you just go right ahead.

:)

Re: Here or KR?

Hi folks! :x

I wasn't planning on posting at Active and just posting at KR exclusively from now on, but since KR is temporarily down while moving to a bigger and better server, I popped over here to lurk. I don't care for this format and don't really have the interest in trying to keep up with two boards, although I might lurk here once inawhile to keep in the loop with a few folks who don't want to post at KR. But the talk about Lab's and Runinbehind's posts yesterdays made me want to come out from lurking and maybe shed some light. I can totally understand how many were put off by those comments and at first reading, I tended to agree with Lab's sentiment, but upon re-reading it, I can see how his intent, or what I am assuming his intent is, can come off. I think what so many of us that moved over to KR liked was the smallness of it. I got to know some posters over there on a different level because for one, with a smaller group, you can actually have the time to read all the posts in the daily again. I don't think I would have interacted as much with Millbot, or Runinbehind, or JJJ, or Tom White, just to name a few at CR as I have at KR. Just like when you go to a BIG party, you tend to mingle around with just a small group of people. At a smaller party, you feel more comfortable socializing with everyone. And i think for those people that are a little shyer in big groups, or bigger forums, like CR was, it's been easier to be more vocal and chat more in a smaller forum like KR - they actually feel like someone is paying more attention and acknowledging them more then what would typically happen at a larger board like CR.

Kick is a public forum and anyone who wants to post there is welcome. Please don't let a few comments turn anyone off or make you feel like you can't post there. Just try to understand that some people got comfortable with a smaller group and maybe didn't feel so lost in a big crowd. But we maintain no exclusive rights to the Master forum at Kick.
