Hamstrings?

Well from basically a 4 month charge of consistent training (sort of my personal couch_to_10K) I actually ran my first race in over 8 years at the Wharf to Wharf run in Capitola/Santa Cru (CA). I did not have any high expectations as far as my performance. I just wanted to have fun during the run (which I did...and now I know why running was so fun for me back in college).

Time: With people traffic through the entire race 36:12.

The last mile of the race was actually a down hill and I did it under 6:00 so I must of had lots of reserve. The last 800 meters or so I felt a strong tinge in my left hamstring and whamo..I am in pain. Not enough to stop me from running/walking, but enough for me to coast in the last 400 meters wondering what I have done.

The race was Sunday...and I have been icing and heating the area since then. Any ideas on what I should do next? Is stretching it too premature at this point. Monday I walked with a slight limp, but now I just feel the tightness.

Anyway thanks for any information or experiences. I don't think this is a level 2/3 pull as it does not seem that severe. Still I just want to make sure...I am doing what I am suppose to be doing to get healed up.
