hip pain while walking, sitting, etc.

About a month ago, I ran in a 5 mile race and afterward had some shooting pain on the outside part of my posterior hip. I continued to run on it for the next few days before my leg became so sore that I figured I had to take a few days off. I took a week and did no running, and it did not seem to help. When I tried to run again, the pain seemed worse than before. My hip feels like it is going to give out whenever I run over a mile or two and my groin and hip flexor start to ache. Even when I just sit at the computer, my groin and hip flexor start to ache. I have been seeing the athletic trainer at my college for two weeks now for daily massages and icing and stimulation therapy, to no avail. He is convinced it is tendonitis and bursitis. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong/ what I might be able to do to get back faster?

I'd suggest seeing a doctor. You probably need to rule out a stress fracture.

I had somewhat similar pain in my hip for a long time and I had to see a physical therapist to make it better. I would see a PT to see what they think. Turns out I have unstable hips, so my hips were not aligned (my right hip was slightly higher than the left...you visibly could not see a difference...it also did not show up on x-rays.)

Anyway, it would not have gone away on its own...it was also really easy to fix and pretty easy to prevent. But I had hip pain all the time, especially when sitting. I would suggest a PT, especially if the doctor only took x-rays and did not really give you a physical exam.

Could you elaborate on the simple fix and prevention please?
