Ankle/Heel Pain

I had ran a 13km last Sunday with no problems. I had to run on the shoulder of the road a few times due to inconsiderate drivers. I was training for a Half-Marathon in December.

The next day I had a ankle discomfort but no pain. Later in the week had the same discomfort but later I had a slight pain in the ankle area due being on my feet for most of the day. I took the week off to rest my foot.

I ran yesterday about 15 meters and I had a shooting pain on my ankle and in the interior of my foot. It hurt more when I lifted my heel off the ground. I stopped immediately to prevent further aggravation. It does not hurt when I apply weight on on my foot. I am puzzled to what has happened. Has anyone experienced this before?

Do you RICE only right after the injury or every day?

Are you supposed to do it a few times a day? I.e., the icing, compression, and elevation... Or just right after the injury occurs?
