Hi Boomers, good luck at the Doc's Ribs. Congratulations on the new grandson Patty!

The weather has been very nice for running, little smoke cool temps and perfect humidity. Went out on a nice 8 mile run today. Heart rate monitor not working well today so I just went by feel.

Good Runs All, Larry

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
Congrats Patty!!!

Ribs, hope all goes well at the Dr.

Humidity gone from the weekend and what was left of Hurricane Dean here in SoCal. It sprinkled for about 2minutes. I didn't log in over the weekend. Saturday?7.8 miles in 1:11. Hip and knee pain at a minimium. Sunday off.

3.8 mile wake up run this morning. Hip a little sore today. Knee OK.

Today is my wife's Bday. We're going out for a nice Mexican dinner tonight.

Have a great day Boomers!

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
Hello, there, baby-Patty-Grandson!

19 breezy miles on the bike this morning, happy to be alive and enjoying the sunrise over the Gulf Islands. Mt Baker was out to greet Spider (I've named the bike) and me as we came blasting back down the highway toward town. I'm starting to make peace with the skittery little bike, although signalling turns when flying downhill is still a little frightening at times.

I have the day off so I can hop on a BC Ferry and go get my MIL, who's en route from Glasgow to YVR today. Wish me luck.

Patty - Congratulations!!

What a beautiful day for a run!!
4.6 miles along the Hudson River. I used to think the river stunk pretty bad. But today, the company that drains the portapotties at the boatlaunch was doing what they do. THAT stinks bad. The river only reeks in comparison.

12:14 PM
76F
4.6m
43:00
9:20 pace.

I am not looking forward to the ride home today. Legs are not feeling greta. At least I'll be riding AWAY from the river.

<<<Editingto add ride home>>>

The ride back home this evening was not nearly as bad as I expected. I did have some stiffness in my legs as I kept in 3rd/4th gear instead of dropping into 1st on my penutlimate hill. I've done that the last couple of times now and think I will try to continue doing so. It's right at 9.6 miles on the 11.6 mile return ride.

One thing could have turned out very badly today, but didn't. The traffic engineers changed the light cycle at the top of the largest hill I have to traverse going home. If I miss the :20 - :30 green window, I have a 2:00 wait for the next green. While I hate waiting, it's a good time to get my breath and drink a lot of water. Well. not anymore. The durn light caught me by surprise by turning green about 1:00 into the cycle. I was partly in traffic, drinking from my waterbottle, one foot in the stirrup, as the light turned green. I was able to get myself going and out of traffic (it's one of those intersections where, if your're going straight, you kinda need to be out of the way of people turning right on red) but it shore weren't pretty.

Stats according to the Computer:

11.6 miles
47:50

bty

Total for the day: 23.5 miles cycling, 4.6 miles running

<HR>

HTC is not about speed. Your team just needs to average 9:30/mi or faster. And personally, as someone who runs a little faster than that, I like being on a slower team. A lot less pressure, and WAY more fun!

Btw, if you're serious about getting a team together for next year, you need to start now. Registration opens October 17th, and you need to be postmarked that day or before. You don't have to know who all your runners are then, you just have to have the money in. Then you're put into a lottery, with a little bit better chance than 50% of getting in. Unless you're grandfathered in...which about 20 - 25 teams are...like my team!

Congrats, Patty, on the birth of your first grandson. Hope the three weeks goes by fast.

I've got two now and they are the greatest. The one year old had his first sleep over at Grannie and Gramps house this weekend...I think we had more fun than he did.

I checked out the site to see what info they had on it - which is very little at this point. But, out of curiosity, what kind of $$$ are we talking about to get registered? Do you know they amount (estimate) required?

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
Congratulations Patty!!!!

I am posting yesterdays carpy run to finally get over it. It was to be my first 7- 8 miler. I ended up doing 3.18 in 42.24 as i pulled up lame.Seems i tore a ligament or stectched a tendon down on my left cankle and the doctor has said no exercising the lower body for a week . I had to walk home also so ended up doing a total of 5.5

As i was walking home i saw DD driving my way thinking she was out to rescue me so i start waving at her and she sees me and waves and keeps on going. She said she didnt realize i was hurt. Dang Kids.

So today i rested by going and buying me some clothes to do a tri in next year and a new road bike( Sequoia elite). Also bought a tri swimming suit and goggles. Now i feel alot better!!!

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
Tammy, I think this year it was $90/runner, so $1080/team. That's just for the entry fee. Teams still need to pay for rental vans, gas, etc. I think most folks who do HTC, and are not lucky enough to have their entry fee and van costs covered, budget about $200 for everything.

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
Good to see progress on a B&B relay team! Hood to Coast is not necessarily the best choice. It is really crowded (1000 teams) and logistics are complicated, requiring an expert organizer to serve as team captain.

Let's research relays!

Here's another idea....

Anyone interested in the Phoenix rock & roll marathon or half marathon Jan 13th? I have some frequent flier miles to burn.... It is time to think past fall '07!

Re: Monday, August 27th Boomer Runs
the H2C $$ is a bit too steep for this pauper . . . oh well.

The Rock & Roll marathon would be fun Econo. I'm thinking of maybe using my frequent flyer miles to do the one in San Diego next summer. I have a good friend that lives there so could combine it with a visit as well.

Anyone that is also registered at Kick having problems getting in this afternoon? When I try logging on I get an error message that says something to the effect of "hacked by _______" and lists out some strange name. yikes!
