Re: The Hack Thread
Okay I'm back on and have just read all this, and Rich, you are correct that I shouldn't have called you an *sshole. I apologize for that as it was a bit much.
There are a few things going on here and I just want to comment on them, the hacking situation first, as that is what the thread was originally about. Sorry Pro!
No one deserves to be hacked. Not a small business, not IBM, not anyone. It is a vicious, wantonly destructive and senseless thing to do and I for one am sorry for you that you have to go through the frustration and hours to fix it. Like a virus, no one benefits from such an activity, even if some hacker argues that it forces the site to make itself more secure. (There are better ways to protect your site I am sure but I don't know what they are as I am an *sshole when it comes to technology.)
When I made my original post I thought that you were the moderator of a site that was not yours, and I thought then, and still believe now, that it was misguided of you to move people's posts around, and not be responsive to a great deal of helpful feedback you got. If you are trying to start up a new and thriving forum the first thing you do is pay attention to the feedback you get from your new customers. That is a simple principle in business and it was clear you weren't listening. This provoked my response, as I thought the investors in the site would not have appreciated it.
But I have learned since my post that you yourself are a financial stakeholder in this enterprise, and frankly, if that is the case you can do as you wish. It's your ship. But since my post, I see from your response and from others' comments that you did listen and that you in fact have made some adjustments to the way members' posts are shown. If that is so, good for you, and I hope the site overcomes its security difficulties and attracts a great membership.
I doubt very much that there are any bad runners, or people who love running who are really, deep down *ssholes, but from time to time all of us take a turn playing the part of one. Best wishes to you Rich. Spareribs
