Re: Sun Sept. 16 Boomer Runs and Weddings
Hi Boomers! Loosing the boomer daily threw my whole day off the other day. Nothing made sense.. Now there is order in the world again. Seeing these changes coming up reminds me of working for the Gov (all 37 years) reorginasation every time the politics changed. Now I hate change. This might also be an age thing Hope the active.com thing isn't going to be to annoying.
I still have a couple of my running logs from back in my old running period. Thankfully I kept detailed records of my Vancouver Marathon training, complete with graphs and comments on how I felt on a given day. I have been following that but will correct some major mistakes. One was that my first 20 miler was right after a 16 miler. The other was running my longest run of 26.5 miles 1 week early and downhill as it killed my legs for a week. I built in cut back weeks + build weeks graphed them but continued to use that as a guide and run by how I felt. I was off by one week on each of my cutback weeks. Vancouver though not my fastest, was my best as my time in the second half was one minute slower than the first half and I never hit that point where I was suffering, in fact I was able to pick it up on the last 10k. There is going to be a major difference and that is when I did Vancouver I was training 5 to 6 days a week, now I am only able to get in 3 days a week.
One of my compensations has been to make all my runs quality runs. Though I run my long run at as slow a pace as possible, my middle distance runs has been a bit harder and atleast one of those runs per week will have to be run at 70-75% while increasing that to half the distance. My concern is burning out like I did last year, but I think I am mentally prepaired now and can avoid that. Something that is different now is that I am determined to run this race in December. The mental aspect and motivation is the most important factor for running a marathon for me. I have a little sticker on my computer monitor with the New Las Vegas Marathon logo, so that I can look at it every day for motivation,.
Good Runs All, Larry
