Best Wishes to DawnDaughter and her new husband!

And congratulations and best wishes to WRFB and PDR!

That boy is getting the best in-laws anyone could ever hope for!

0610
55 F
77 % humidity

21.25 miles.
I hit the wall (or as the sunnyman said, "bonked") with about 3 miles to go. It was a hallucinatory death blod.

Mistakes:
Losing 3 pounds this week. (not intentional, just not hungry)
Not eating right on Saturday.
Not adding one more nutrition stop along my route.

Positive things about this run:
It is over.
The weather was nice.

Re: Sun Sept. 16 Boomer Runs and Weddings
Hi Boomers! Loosing the boomer daily threw my whole day off the other day. Nothing made sense.. Now there is order in the world again. Seeing these changes coming up reminds me of working for the Gov (all 37 years) reorginasation every time the politics changed. Now I hate change. This might also be an age thing Hope the active.com thing isn't going to be to annoying.

I still have a couple of my running logs from back in my old running period. Thankfully I kept detailed records of my Vancouver Marathon training, complete with graphs and comments on how I felt on a given day. I have been following that but will correct some major mistakes. One was that my first 20 miler was right after a 16 miler. The other was running my longest run of 26.5 miles 1 week early and downhill as it killed my legs for a week. I built in cut back weeks + build weeks graphed them but continued to use that as a guide and run by how I felt. I was off by one week on each of my cutback weeks. Vancouver though not my fastest, was my best as my time in the second half was one minute slower than the first half and I never hit that point where I was suffering, in fact I was able to pick it up on the last 10k. There is going to be a major difference and that is when I did Vancouver I was training 5 to 6 days a week, now I am only able to get in 3 days a week.

One of my compensations has been to make all my runs quality runs. Though I run my long run at as slow a pace as possible, my middle distance runs has been a bit harder and atleast one of those runs per week will have to be run at 70-75% while increasing that to half the distance. My concern is burning out like I did last year, but I think I am mentally prepaired now and can avoid that. Something that is different now is that I am determined to run this race in December. The mental aspect and motivation is the most important factor for running a marathon for me. I have a little sticker on my computer monitor with the New Las Vegas Marathon logo, so that I can look at it every day for motivation,.

Good Runs All, Larry

Great news for Tall on the new place and Holly on the Boston getaway.
42.6 miles biking, fairly flat with the club. Beautiful low 50's to start and low 60's at the end. I got a new saddle and had the handlebars raised and it was much improved. Off to lunch

Re: Sun Sept. 16 Boomer Runs and Weddings
Great run, beerger, and nice PR Tramps. Holly, you will enjoy Boston... but enjoy a thorough recovery first.

So here's how it is: 4 weeks ago, I was in 5-minute mile shape, then got hurt. Now... 5 miles at 8:40 pace this morning. AT bothered me the whole way. I've gained 5 pounds and feel slow and heavy. I've already written off this fall's racing season.

Seriously thinking of a very long layoff. I've learned you can't train through AT problems, or cross your fingers and hope they go away. Ugg.

I could use a father-in-law with a brewery in his basement.

Dave,

Don't give up. Back off as much as you need to, but meanwhile stay in the best shape you can. Keep an eagle eye on the situation, and plan to ramp up again as soon as ever you can. That's what I do: back off when I have to but never give up.

4 EZ but very hilly miles @ 10:10.
My DH said "you home already? 40 minutes? I was in the shower for 40 minutes?" Ya, apparently.

Congrats to the whole Beer clan on this happy day.

Tramps, that 5k time makes my water, Congrats.
Tall, I hope things work out for you and your family.

Did anybody notice DH caught a coupla feel golds and stumbled on an intraception.... or something like that.

Holly, your DH is so nice.

I got so excited about Nordic and Erika's hill climb yesterday my feet made me go out to run one to celebrate. Half way up the hill I realized garmin was still auto clicking 1 Kilo laps instead of miles, but pacing in miles. I got use to it. After awhile it seemed that Ks do seem to go by quicker than miles. Ummmm.

On a more serious note, noticed that smaller uphills seem more runnable and wasn't stessing aerobically as much. Oh yeah, it was 46F this am.
19K (11.81M) today most on the trail about 5 miles on pavement through Beartree Campground. AHR 149 12:56 min/m.
Nope, no bears.

20 miles on the towpath in 3:16. I waited for Mr to fly past me on his way to the car on his quest for the post-run Wendy's burger while I finished my run. He didn't show up at 15 miles. Then 16 miles. My heart was sinking and I felt something was wrong. Soon I saw him walking towards me. He had a problem with his knee and walked several miles in. He hasn't said much, but I asked where it hurt and he said outside edge; I'm suspecting ITB which must be contagious in this house.

Oooh, the redeye to Seattle on the heels of the Equinox? You'll be tired! The things we do to ourselves!

We're celebrating our son's birthday this weekend--starting a little early--as I forgot to mention that he Won the 1.2 mile Kids Equinox challenge on Saturday (6th grade and under). They go up the ski hill and then return on the last 3/4 mile of the marathon course.

Then we had 2 of his friends plus 2 of my other son's friends over for a bonfire and sleepover. Six boys in one house for 24 hours...a not so quiet riot.

I was exhausted by the time we got to bed at about 11, but ended up waking up at 1:15 thinking that the race was still on or something, so I couldn't get back to sleep for hours, and then still woke up too early.

Meanwhile, the weather sucks today. Drip drip drip. It's been raining for about 20 hours now. Cross training might be out, and it would wise to take a day off from running, so it might just be a sit inside and rest day.

Congratulations, Holly! That's excellent news! I can't believe you went out and ran 4 miles... wow. I got to spend 4 hours on a plane in a seat that doesn't recline from 1:30 to 5:30 this morning. Sitting in the airport now waiting for flight to Dallas. My back hurts, my feet are swollen, and I'm so tired I'm groggy. The timing of this conference couldn't be much worse, but I guess it's a good thing to be going. Just why now??

Great running, Berger! That's impressive mileage for the week.

Best wishes for the wedding today! The Beers are almost done with that chapter... almost time for the big sigh of relief!

Hope I have some time to read RRs later...

What he said.

I am a bit concerned because she and I seem to be on the same long run schedule but on opposite shores of this big land.

Maybe she is miffed at me because, around my mile 18 (before the Wall)... I thought, "Isn't this neat? Here I am finishing up my long run and econo is probably starting hers because of the big old time difference." Then I chuckled to myself...

Re: Sun Sept. 16 Boomer Runs and Weddings
I did a 5 min walk, 30 mins running, and another 5 mins walk. I did this on the treadmill and added lots of low rolling hills. Then lots and lots of stretching! I feel really good now and am pleased with the fact that week 1 of the 60 minute Switzer program is now over. I think that my yoga class yesterday helped me to feel so good this morning on my run. Early this afternoon, DH and I took a short hilly hike with our 2 french bulldogs (about 2 miles) and they did great too.

Tomorrow is weight work & abdominals.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening everyone! Congrats to the Beers on their wedding day! Our 3rd anniversary is coming up shortly and we're going to the Adirondacks for some hiking to celebrate that.

Re: Sun Sept. 16 Boomer Runs and Weddings
Congratulations Holly on such a fantastic job on the marathon. You trained real hard and earned that BQ!!

I just returned from my wknd away up in the moutains. After my long run of 11.2 miles on Friday, then sitting in a car for a couple hrs, I thought I'd be pretty stiff and sore, but not too bad. I went out for a 4 mile trail run early Saturday a.m. It was quite cold up there - my car windows had frost! I wore shorts and a long sleeve shirt though and by about mile 2 I could feel my legs again and by mile 3, I could feel my hands. I did take some pics on my cell phone and camera and will post those tomorrow from my faster computer at work. Such a beautiful place I was at. Another friend that was up there (9 friends in total) went for a walk a few hrs after I returned (she waited til it warmed up) and came face to face (well, 30 yds) with a cougar. She thinks the cougar was as scared as she was and he/she went running off. She was on one of the same paths I was running on. Not sure how a cougar would have reacted to someone running so I'm thankful I didn't have that encounter.
