Philly Distance Run RR

This has been one of my favorite races, and this year was my major tuneup before Chicago. Training has been going well, and I was hoping for a shot a a sub 1:30.

Race conditions were absolutely perfect - sunny, low 50's, with just a little wind.

I started and went through the 1st mile in 6:59. I never really had problems with the crowd, so this was exactly where I wanted to be. I ended up catching one of my teammates, and we ran off/on together for the next few miles
2) 6:42
3) 6:49
I was around here that I pulled away (slighty) from my teammate. I was feeling good and realized the sub 1:30 was now within reach.
4) 6:43
5) 6:45
6) 6:49
7) 6:51
8) 6:49
I couldn't believe how even my splits were.
9) 7:00
10) 7:00 1:08:44
Mile 9 included a slight incline going up the Falls River Bridge, which must have caused me to slow a little. Time to pick it up again. or the sub 1:30 will be gone
11) 6:51
12) 6:51
With less than 1/2 to my teammate goes flying by me, and says "Lets go Jeff" I didn't have quite the wheels left he did, but stayed as close as I could. I knew I was close
13.1 7:20

Gun Time 1:29:48
Chip Time 1:29:33

OA 572/11569

My best 1/2 since 2001! I don't think I have ever run such an evenly paced race. Look out Chicago (and Boston) - here I come.

Great race, jtv! Sounds like your teammate provided the motivation you needed to bring it home under 1:30. Congrats again and very good luck in Chicago and Boston!

Nice Run JTV.... Sounds like you enjoyed the course and the weather as much as I did. Even (or slightly negative) splits are the way to go. - Good luck in chi-town.

This is so cool. I'm happy for you, Jeff. I've followed your progress these past couple years and think I have an idea of how much this means to you. It must have made it all the more satisfying to feel like it might be slipping away, and then dig down deep and find out what you are made of. That was a gutsy final 5k you turned in. Very nice run.

Congratulations,
Jim
