Portland (OR) Marathon get together

I realize most of the PNW folks will be doing the inuagural Bellingham marathon on October 7, but a few of us die hards will be at Portland on the same date. (Cursing the race schedulers for this breach of racing etiquette)

Econo, Sans Souci, and Solarrunner to run, myself, Mustang Sally, hopefully Lab & Mrs. Duck, and I'm begging choovie , will be there to man (woman) the aid station.

So, here's the question. Where and what time do we want to get together the night before. Same place as last year?? Maybe Sans Souci, Econo, & Solarrunner are the only votes who count.

Open to suggestions.

RSVP Please

Also, anyone whom I've neglected to list is certainly welcome to come to dinner/run/aid station attendee as well.

Re: Portland (OR) Marathon get together
Hey John--don't add me to the neglected list--add me to the in on the Meet & Greet list. I hear it will be the same place as last year and labduck is making a reservation for us all at 6ish.
I can't wait to meet all you PNWers AND work the aid station. I hear the aid station is better than the race... well, I guess if you're not running the race anyway. See y'all then. glidegal

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY--I didn't get on yesterday so I hope you see my wishes for a most spectacular year at this site.

Oh, I can just picture you at the aid station! SS and Soundie speed by and then.....time....seems to...stand still.....wonder when Econo will come?....a tumbleweed blows by... (cue sad violin music)

But the party the night before will be awesome fun! See you at 5:15pm!

Choovie? Ya comin'?

I've heard from a good source that Hippo is coming - and actually running! Me? I'm just spectating, so I'm happy to go where I'm needed and be Generally Useful, while blowing off a little steam. Those of you who are being virtuous because of your Big Race may loan me some of your Bad Behaviour and I'll perform it on your behalf.

Mmm. Fettucini Alfredo. Wine. Chocolate. Book stores. Race Expos. Men ^h^h^h. ahem Opportunities to Improve my Spiritual Well-Being.

I would be delighted to join everybody at a dinner, despite being kinda AWOL from this place.

I'll be running, but as a slacker. Just hanging out for a nice Sunday run and enjoying the ambience. The real meat of my fall schedule starts the following week.

Econo is funny.

So is Sally, but I'm still scared of her. At any time she could straighten up standing tall and stern like Mother Nature with flashing eyes and as she raises her voice the sky turns dark and lightning bolts begin to crash all around.

Re: Portland (OR) Marathon get together
Yeah, we'll have the pre-race dinner at the same place as last year, the Macaroni Grill at the corner of SW Yamhill & 3rd in downtown Portland. Last year we made the reservation for 5:00 pm, which worked pretty well, so I'll see if I can get that time again. It's just a guess, but I'll make the reservation for 12 people.

The aid station will be at the same location, between Miles 21 and 22 at the intersection of N. Willamette Blvd. and Holman St. We'll set up the blue canopy again, bring coolers of various beverages (some even good for runners!), and cheer the participants as they go by. Basically, it's a tailgate party at a marathon.

I let you know more when I get the details sorted out.

Darn, this sounds like such a fun group -- I wish I could come! But I'll still be in California on the 7th.

Have a round of Gatorade jello shots on me

Well a quick check of the Marathon Maniacs calendar shows 18 Maniacs at Bellingham, 54 at Portland. Personally, I'm more annoyed that Victoria is the same day as Portland.

Anyway, I'll be at Portland!

Spectator......oh my....I'll be the Goodyear blimp floating above the race this year.....I hate injuries. Of course I'll be cheering for all the Boomers and my special Canadian. Hey Duck....I like my Bloody Mary's a little on the strong side.

Like winejunky and his wares, this thread is improving with age! Glad you heard the call, wj. Can't wait to give The Canadian a big maple leafy hug.

And Maniacs too?! Bob, are you joining us? Hippo, shall we don fishnets and tutus or the manly man togs on marathon day?

Not sure whether I could make it to a dinner. My wife will be there, and we'll be staying with a friend. But I'll be around wearing Maniac yellow before and after the race.
