saturday oct 13 boomer runs

all the early birds must be out running - or getting ready to race... couldn't sleep, up early to work, first 10K ever planned for later today with a famous butterfly lady as RD! spent the last few days maffing and resting and not too many miles so it will be interesting to see what the legs have in them today...

best of luck to all the racers and especially the hartford gang - go pdr!

Thanks, Susan. We're so nervous we could eat bacon like a banshee. (But we'll probably stick with bagels and bananas)

Good luck on the 10k susan.

Up early also - I will be at the "Making Stride Against Breast Cancer" on Belle Isle today. It's a 5 mile walk, but you can run if you wish. I don't know if I will - there's some very light pain in my leg and I've kinda learned not to ignore these things.

Good runs all.

Erika, me too: "Of all the Hartford runners, I'm really pulling for PDR... seems like she's been through so much to get to this point, I really hope it turns out well. Go get 'em, Harriet! (Lou, I know you'll do well!)"
PDR, what Erika said.

Good Morning Boomers!

Larry ? I loved that picture from yesterday ? the reds are my favorite fall colors.

Lou is sending out beer? Woohoo!

{{{FlyingFinn}}}

2.25 miles for me today, including 4 minutes of semi-sprint to induce a mini-carb-load.. Oh dear, that semi-sprint, which took so much effort today, was still at a pace 18 seconds slower than I hope to run tomorrow for 13.1 miles. Hope some magic shows up overnight.

First time in the 30?s for my run this morning, and it felt pretty cold, although I was warm enough in long pants, LS shirt and light gloves. I know in a few months the 30?s will feel quite warm.

Good luck to the racers!

Re: saturday oct 13 boomer runs
Rest and travel day for me. I leave for Picton to run the half tomorrow morning after selecting the girls for this year's basketball team on which my daughter plays.

Might do 3 miles tonight at the hotel to loosen up and give me confidence before the race.

Race weather:
4C in the morning (I will be out on some cold cornfield in the middle of nowhere - they drive us out)
15K winds out of the NW (which may help, not sure based on what I have heard)

Egrd - good luck in TO
Go Hartford racers and other racers.

Tall!!! Cranbare and good travels to you.
May the wind be at your back and the road rise up to meet you.

Lou et al, Have Fun!!! Run like Big Boy Bacon Banshees! I can't wait to hear the terrific results of the day.

We're doing a little last minute apple picking with the fam here and then I'm on the train to TO. Ready to rip.

Re: saturday oct 13 boomer runs
I'll be going to the gym later to run 6 miles at recovery pace. Just to keep the legs loose for tomorrow.

Sunday has an organized training run along the beach where you can run any distance you wish up to 30K. They'll have everything from a starting horn, water tables, mile markers, a running clock, and food for afterwards. But no official times are kept and no medals.

This is a much better way to get in a long training run and assess fitness. I'll be doing the full 30K plus a warm up and cool down for my final 20 miler. I think I'll try 6 miles at MP+40 seconds, 6 miles at MP+20, and the last 6 miles at MP.

2500 yards in the pool. Got my butt kicked by the 65-year-old in the next lane.

Cgrai, Swim Coach Bethany has heard of golf scores, strokes + time for 50yd. She said you can try to minimize the score by varying the strokes per length and the time; there is some optimum value. I think I will make a chart, color-coded and cross-referenced, to figure out mine.

Game-day brunch, then off to Michigan-Purdue with DadinAA.

An epic weekend of racing looms. Go Boomers!

Four easy miles under cool gray skies. Temp was 38F, just about IRC.

Good luck to the racers this weekend.

5 mi. easy in trail shoes in the dirt and grass at the park. Startled a few cottontail bunnies at first, then a bunch of people showed up to walk so the cottontails disappeared. Very easy pace but I did speed up a little at the end. AHR 125, MHR 137.

Re: saturday oct 13 boomer runs
When Sgt. Camargo went on a guided tour of the Sistine Chapel in July, he sang a disco song from "Saturday Night Fever" and did a little dance.

I thought that was probably the low point in Sistine Chapel history, but Sgt. Camargo has now been surpassed.

The latest "Sports Illustrated" (October 15, 2007) quotes Boston Celtics rookie Glen Davis, after seeing the Sistine Chapel on the team's trip to Rome:

"There's no way I would take six years painting a ceiling. But I guess you do what you've got to do, and I just want to commend Michelangelo."
