Re: Mon. Oct. 15 Boomer Runs & Workouts
morning boomers,

nice run, DH.

Ruth, I am so glad you're here. you can help me keep the average down.

cj, yay!

daveinAA, i've been wondering what the diagnosis was and how you were doing. if full blown empathy does any good, you have it. it's just been 2 weeks for me (not to mention our different levels in the first place) & I am not handling it at all well. one thing that's eating my head is thinking about the slow re-entry process to prevent re-injury. deep breath.
thanks for reporting what you've been doing, it helps me be determined to find something I can do.

yesterday, grass cutting etc. last night, SS stability ball planks, wimpy superman lifts & ab stuff. this morning pilates workout 1, callans hips sitting bent leg but only could do 1 leg. pt exercises.

another stupid question. how does swimming with a pull buoy work? do they ever have them at the pools, or you bring your own?

such a happy running weekend!

Rest day after yesterday's 20 total (30K organized). The legs feel surprisingly good for the effort I made them go. Encouraging.

Most pools, including the Y, have a stash at poolside. They are useful because they stabilize your lower body without the need to kick, so you have a bit less to think about and can focus on your stroke. And they raise you up in the water, so you can move a little faster, especially if you otherwise suffer from Sinking Butt Syndrome. Triathletes sometimes swim with one or even two pull buoys to simulate the buoyancy of a wetsuit.

Good morning, Boomers!

DH - that treadmill must have been smoking by the time you finished! Nice workout!

{{{{dg9 and Dave}}}} sending healing thoughts to both of you.

Meetings all day today, so the race reports will have to wait until tomorrow. I hate it when work gets in the way of my reading pleasure...... In them meantime - congrats to all of our weekend racers - enjoy the rest now!

A beautiful 38 degrees here this morning with clear skies and no breeze. 6.4 easy miles. I did 12.6 miles on the trail yesterday morning. I think many of the regulars must have done the Hartford race Saturday as the trail traffic was very sparse.

Good runs to all!

3 miles this morning at a slow 11:44. Struggled to do this 3 not because of the leg. It is really surprising how much conditioning you can lose in a few weeks.

Good runs all.

thanks Dave. I think I'll try it because I don't think I can kick. "especially if you otherwise suffer from Sinking Butt Syndrome", sure, but, that's from not running. .

thanks Sue & Anachrotech... Sue, at what point did you add the hamstring strengthening exercises? Nice runs this weekend. Have you recovered? Did you decide for sure on your next marathon?
Anachrotech, {{{{ }}}} for you too.

Okay, Dave, I've seen pictures of you....no one would ever accuse you of suffering from this malady...

DH - fast guy...

{{{Dg9}}}

X-training day for me: weighted squats, dead lifts, weighted duck squats, bench step-ups, lateral raises, seated reverse flies, triceps extensions, various ab stuff.

I can already tell that I'll be sore tomorrow from this mornings lower body set. That's a good thing, though. Due to race tapers, I've been doing less weights work lately, but now that I have the big races over with, time to get back to a more balanced routine.

Happy Monday!

Edited to make Dave a little bolder...

I could get used to sleeping until 5am.

One more rest day (today) and then back to normal. I plan to start my reverse taper with a short recovery run tomorrow.

Thanks to all for the support and kind comments on my race report.
