That's just wrong in so many ways.

Skip, great photos of what looks like a great place to run.

I did 6 easy miles at 10:37 pace. Saw the usual turkeys...insert funny remark here...and the "becoming usual" deer munching on what I believe was a chicken samich and some waffle fries.

Saw a guy fly a really big canopy type kite...orange, blue and white. It was awesome the way it soared, dipped and turned.

Anyway, I'll be running a 5K race this Sat. The Run for Shelter benefits the Western Plains Youth Shelter and is a very worthy cause. I'll be posting my first ever RR sometime after the race. I'm kinda excited about that...so I got that going for me, which is nice. I've run it two years in a row with a PCR of 24 minutes and change. I'm not in as good of condition this year, and haven't been training for this race (insert other flimsy excuses here) but look to come in under 26 minutes.

Go Boom

psst, dale, don't forget economists! What would this country do without them? (Wait -- don't answer that.)

Ran home. Hot & hilly -- not much fun. 4 miles

Re: Tue. Oct. 23 Boomer Runs & Workouts
Thanks for the great pictures Skip. One of them is going to be used a my computer's wallpaper for months to come.

I had the funnest and fastest 6 mile run this late afternoon. I am not sure what to attribute to the speed I found in my legs, but I was running 8:20 minute miles for most of the run and that is after I ran up a half a mile nemesis canyon. It sure felt great and the funny thing is that I am not even tired.

I wonder how SR is enjoying his visit to Tacoma.

Tammy, I miss Jura too.

Re: Tue. Oct. 23 Boomer Runs & Workouts
Last recovery day after Saturday's 5k. Can start running again tomorrow at luch time.

Tonight - 4 sets of arm curls with 20 lb db's. I promised myself that once I can do 4 sets of 100 reps, I'll buy myself a set of 25 lb db's. 3/4 of the way there!

Oh, yeah - I spoke with the local HS track coach on Saturday after the race. I had previously offered via e-mail to help him with the discus and shot throwers next spring, and we met on Saturday and he took me up on the offer - he said it was their one weak area last year. I'd love to get started - I haven't coached Track & Field at all since 1996, and haven't been able to focus on just the weight events since 1985. From our discussion it sounds like there is some raw talent that needs a coach! Yea! And my two older boys will probably be on the team this year, but not likely throwing. Should be fun!

bty

Edited because I am a week spelller.

Also edited to add that my #2 son's 7th & 8th grade Cross Country team won their league champioship meet with a very impressive 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 9 finish. DS finished 5th OA, #4 on his team, and was a contributor, as he has been all season long. So they finished their league season undefeated in dual meets and winners of the league championship meet as well. They have one more invitational this coming Saturday, and that's it.

4.3 muddy miles in my trail shoes, and one of them smells like dog poop-one of the disadvantages to running at night in a park in town. 43:51, followed by 4 x 100m strides on the paved trail of 25, 24, 24 & 24 seconds., followed by 0.5 mi. walk.

Hey Opie, it is time to rest so you can be ready for your first ultra this weekend. Way to go man...I am so proud of you for attempting an ultra.

Have fun. I admire your courage to go ultra.

Re: Tue. Oct. 23 Boomer Runs & Workouts
DS2's team lost, on home court, first game of the tournament. Tough game, and it really wasn't their night. So that's it for the 8th grade basketball season. He's bummed they didn't play well, but sekritly glad it's over. I think this was a tough year for him in many ways. (he's still wearing the black armband in memory of his soccer coach... I'm wondering if that's ok)

After the game, I hit the gym and did 4 miles of intervals on the treadmill. I don't remember it quite like Holly did, but it was .5 mile warmup (6.9 mph), then .25-.30 mile progressive intervals from 7.7 mph to 8.2 mph to the beat of Solarmix6, with .1 to .15 mile recoveries at 7.0 mph. I really really really didn't want to stop, but it was getting late and I wanted to do some ab/core stuff before heading home.

Most of the day was in the single digits today. I'd love to do my 6-7 outside tomorrow (no basketball!), but it would be nice to have it warm up into the upper teens at least. Not ready for "more miles than degrees" just yet!

Re: Tue. Oct. 23 Boomer Runs & Workouts
Hey Steve, who's your fav Batman actor? Mine's Michael Keaton.

Mariposai, thanks for the thumbs up on the ultra. There's always some long distance event out there that intimidates us. For me it's the 100k & 100M events. But now that I've been bitten by the bug, I may consider doing a 50M. It will be fun to see if this is different than my trail marathon, Haulin' Aspen, where we had to climb to 6,000 feet. So, even though it's another 5 miles, the intensity could actually be less. Who knows? It's an inaugural event.

Kevin Conroy has both "Batman" and "Bruce Wayne" down pat. Clooney played the best Bruce Wayne with Lewis Wilson a close 2nd. Keaton is pretty darn good, however, I prefer Val Kilmer. After my first 15K,(134th in AG), I met Adam West. I happened to have been wearing a ribbed Batman tank top. He's kewl with his fans. It was hot and I smelled bad. I asked for his autograph. When he asked my name....I forgot it.....My wife had to help me. He tried to have a conversation with me and I was just a blithering fool.
