Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
Morning..

Holly.. hope those fire stopped short for your SIL's place!
Breeger.. good for you doing those 1600's. I have mine 11 days out on Tueday ("should be" 10 days out like yours), do you think a day makes a difference? For my BQ I replaced it with a fast Tempo.
Anyways, start slow and finish fast in that cold NY weather, remember Alaska!!

Roch.. as SR always says, "dress for the finish": wear what you plan to finish in.. no tying or tucking allowed

4 Magical healing Miles in 37:56 (9:29 pace AHR 142 with 6 x 23 sec strides) Feel like a total slacker! Tempo tomorrow.. yipee..

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
Welcome AuburnNE/Lynn.

Are you from Auburn Nebraska? I'm from Omaha.

If I don't start back to more serious running here, I will be back to running it in 100 yard segments. I think I just needed a week off, so I took it. Also am having real motivational issues now that our HM is off the plan.

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
mrwhite, that's Amore.

Hang in there Tall.

I am also on that Berger bandwagon, looking forward to his race.

Ambivalent about the running log issue. Before I ever got on CR I kept my mileage in my diary and that worked just fine. After the log goes away I guess I will just go back to doing that. Somebody got me putting miles into an Excel spreadsheet that gives me more flexibility to log stuff, so that will be the plan.

Just two more days in Tacoma. Will run along the Sound after work, as I have done every day here. It's pretty nice. Spareribs

Not at all. At this point in the training the 1600's are more for mental toughness and confidence than fitness.

I don't think I'll have a choice but to start slow given the other 48,000 runners and the narrow, uneven Brooklyn streets for the 1st 8 miles or so! If I have a shot at MP it'll have to be a fast finish (gulp!).

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
Good Morning, Boomers!!!

{{{{{Tall}}}} - thanks for the kickoff!

Doug - you are absolutely right about the meds. Running keeps me sane without having to resort to polypharmacy.

Holly - those are indeed scary photos - I hope your SIL's house is safe.

Bill - nice workout - you are so ready for NY.

Lynn - welcome to boomerland. I guarantee no one will laugh at your running endeavors here. We're a very supportive (if somewhat quirky) group.

No pizza pie moon for me this morning. Cloudy and drizzly with 49 degree temps. I almost bagged the run when I saw the weather radar map, but I'm glad I didn't. 5 sproinky track miles at half marathon pace.

Good runs to all!

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
We're just giddy about the rain we've been getting the last 24 hours. It's been on and off; a light-to-moderate soaking rain that's forecast to continue until Saturday morning. Should total 2-3 inches by time it's done; not nearly enough to make up the massive deficit from the drought, but a nice start. Hopefully there'll be more coming on a regular basis.

Ran 6.2 easy miles in a light drizzle. It was nice to get mud on my shoes.

P.S. Looks like IRC for Marine Corps Marathon Sunday. Go MCM'ers!

Sue ...

Good to see another Nebraskan ... yes, I'm down in Auburn, about a hundred miles south of you.

All of you who are racing this weekend--GREAT GOOD LUCK. Wish I were anywhere near conditioned enough to be with you, but my heart will be cheering you onward!

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
Welcome aboard, Lynn. There's a wiki in my signature that has a lot of local info, including a bit of background on some of the more obtuse running jokes (haw!) around here.

The moon was startling and golden this morning. I chased it down the hill on my bicycle, but it kept giggling and skipping away over the treeetops.

Late post of last night's swim workout: 300 w/u, 4x50kick, 6x100 alternating pull/swim, and then 100cd. And I was still fresh and strong, so I dis some test 50's and 100's just to see how I'm doing. The 100s (swum at about 90%) are 1:43. I'm very pleased. I can start to feel a bit of "lift" and a bow wave as I up the effort, and I know it's all good.

Tall: I don't want to know what my pharmaceutical bills would be if I weren't running.

Speaking of layering smart - I saw the funniest thing this weekend... this chick I was running with overheated midway through and finished the run with a Boston jacket tied about her waist. I thought of Ribs and cackled to myself at the circumstance.

More later - I'm at the track tonight.

Re: Thursday Runs - Run the Blues Away
Welcome to Lynn -

My "plan", such as it is, calls for rest today, with 50% chance of weight training before midnight. I'm thinking I will get in a 4-mile walk at lunchtime as long as this weather holds out - right now the Upstate NY sky is blue and clear, in spite of the rainy/cloudy forecast.

Now if I were to confess publicly that I had an obsessive personality, that would not surprise any of you, I'm sure. Whether it's running, or biking to work, or whatever, I love to keep track of it and keep "a streak" going. So since the cycling commute season is over, I have a new obsession - "Avoiding The Elevator". Since the staircases were reopened about a week ago, I have managed to avoid using the elevator for 8 straight work days. I'm only on the 3rd floor of a 6 story building so it's not like I'm climbing 40 flights of stairs every day. But it is 40 steps up and 40 back down several (maybe 8?) times a day. I haven't decided yet whether to put a field in my log for "Stair Climbing" .

Have a great day everyone.
