Night time Boomers, week of 11/19/07

Hi all, night timers! New week and hopefully great runs....remember, it's doesn't have to be dark to be a part of our group!

10 miles - 1:14 for me tonight. You know what? My cancelled Marathon training has really paid off. Like tonight, 1:14 is fast for me for 10 miles...I think my fastest 10 miles is about 1:10, and tonight seemed easy. And can someone answer this question....my best runs are usually a day after my long day run??? I really don't understand this, but it's ok with me.

Funny note: I welcomed my new next door neighbors tonight....IN MY FREAKING UNDERWARE. There has been no one next door like for ever. Tonight was really warm out, and I stepped out on my deck after my shower....in MY UNDERWARE. And I look to my left and see 4 people staring at me. I just said "evening, nice night out, huh" Oh well, atleast I was in boxer breifs that actually look like regular shorts, LOL

Have a great night Boom Heads.

Ok, what did you do today???

Tim (Red Faced)

Ha, good story Tim! At least you were wearing underwear. Did the new neighbors say anything? The guy who lives across the street from me walked out to the mailbox in his whitey tighties on day and I happened to see him. He said he was so sleepy he didn't realize what he was doing. I teased him quite a while over that one.

I had my first run in the snow tonight. Very enjoyable.

Re: Night time Boomers, week of 11/19/07
Copy of my post in the last night time boomers thread, just posted before the new thread started.

Hi Night Time Boomers! You are definately no wimp Evenflein. I think I could much more easily stay on a treadmill than any other excercise machine, atleast I can pretend I am running out doors. My maximum distance on a tm is 16 miles, I don't know if I could handle 20, however I have done water running to simulate a 20 mile run. Now that is boring!
Today's run just isn't in the cards. Totally worn out from shoveling snow all day, the only thing I want to do now is veg out on the couch. There is atleast 18 inches of heavy wet snow out there, 7 down ponderosa pines, one in my drive, no power. The wood stove is going downstairs, candles are burning and I am able to post with my new laptop computer that doesn't need power. It is amazing how noisy a house is when the power is on, don't notice the quite until it fails.

I suppose I can count today as an upper body workout, though I wonder how many miles I have put in going up and down the hill and stairs today.

Good Runs All, Larry

Well I will just add to my post, thanks for starting the thread Tim. We live back off the road about a 10th of a mile or so, and I won't hesitate to go outside in my underware, even in the winter.

Running in the snow is fine, as on long as a snow plow has been by recently. Slogging thru deep uneven slick snow? No Thanks.

Larry, you bring to mind the reason we can't live in the city... DH needs to be able pee off any corner of his property without the neighbors seeing... that's why we have 2 acres and a good property line/easement on all sides... I'm doomed. The modern world hardly has requirements for DH that the law allows... Larry, if we have to move, we're comin' to see you!

No running tonight... a rest day filled with dinner, wine and math homework. It got a little too much for me to handle... I quit at the lowest algrebra level I could. DS1 is in advance algebra (pre calc stuff) and DH was a finance business major... DS2 and I just watched. Proud to say, if it was a contest, DS1 was the clear winner. The kid is a genius...

I feel a little more welcome in posting with the; "it doesn't have to be dark to be part of our group"

Even though I'd rather run at night. Ran this morning. Have a new schedule. It's to break me out of my old LSD drudgery. Had a trainer years back who ran me in the ground on LSD. This is to start me out right. Switching quick between run/walk. Gotta admit. It's a hassle constantly switching back and forth. It's sure breaking things up though. And I'm free to explore playing as much as I want with any cross training of any type. Whenever I want.
15 minute "run" today...
Had to put that off from yesterday also. I had that stomach virus. Put me in misery for a little over 24 hours.

Chover...That can be so nice running in the snow. I just envied you. I know I'll get plenty of chances myself.
Tim...That is good time. Sounds like you're doing great.
Larry.... I'd consider that cross training and book it.
evanflein...I should have taken today off.

catching up a little, (although I'm not a night time runner, like I said, I came over to keep up with ya'll )

Larry, yikes! I guess that counts as an all over workout. phew. reminds me of a couple of winters ago here. it wouldn't stop. you had to walk 10 miles to find a spot low enough to reach with your shovel of snow. ok. maybe that was a little exaggerated. but not much. but you be a little careful, ok?

choovie quote: "Debbie, I have to watch my wrists too -- lots of pressure is put on them in some of those yoga positions. I tried yoga videos but can't seem to get around to doing them. But I'm pretty faithful about going to class." I've noticed.:-).. hey, yesterday at the gym I tried something like these http://www.yogaprops.net/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=yp&Category_Code=hand..[/URL" target="_blank"> at least they were a little similar, to do my SS Stability Ball side planks with straight arm. It was a little tough to get into position, but I think it did help.

Hi Erika! Your tm endurance is very wonderful. But I agree with you, they're all equally boring. remember my whole stupid gym joining / socializing trauma? well, i joined one. & got an mp3. loaded on the mixes. & lost it. don't tell anybody. geez. so now I'm not only vulnerable, but bored too. i took a book last time, but the subject was a little challenging for elliptical time.
btw, "DH needs to be able pee off any corner of his property without the neighbors seeing... " says so much in so few words. I love it.

Hi eliz! Hi Mari!

sorry so chatty, my internet's been down since sunday, guess I'm making up for lost time.
tomorrow i meet with a personal trainer at the gym for an equipment orientation, so I can find out if there's more I can do while I'm working back into running. feels so self-indulgent when I sneak in a few laps.

happy running.

Re: Night time Boomers, week of 11/19/07
I ran in the morning today, too, but since it was raining, it felt like evening again! I've seen the sun for a total of about 2 hours since Saturday morning. Supposed to be cloudy and rainy the next two days, but with temps forecast for the 60s(!), I guess I'll stop complaining about the lack of sun and be glad for warmth.

Parent conferences at school, so I had to be there from 1:00-8:30 p.m. Was conscripted to a DREADFUL department meeting from 1:00-4:00, so I was glad for a few post-run endorphins from my 5 miles this morning. Longest run since the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Yeah, me!

I took it slow (slow for me means glacial for the rest off the world), especially on the hills, but did have enough kick to make the last mile the fastest of the five. Planning to run 2 miles tomorrow, then a 5K Turkey Trot on Thursday - both in the morning! Kind of crazy that I just started posting with night-time boomers and most of my runs have been in the day time since then!

4 miles today.

1 mile warm up.

2 miles of intervals

1 mile cool down.

Tim

You asked in last weeks thread were I run on the Cardinal Greenway when visiting Muncie. Normally on the North side. Normally at the Gaston Trail head or the trail head next to Wheeling just outside of Muncie.

Good running everybody and keep up the good work.

Re: Night time Boomers, week of 11/19/07
Took it easy today with a 5K walk instead of running. Am feeling sleepy, and my legs a little sore from yesterday. Also, decided I'd rather run two consecutive days at the shore - on the FLAT boardwalk - than at home, so I'll run tomorrow and Friday.

Enjoyed the sunshine, finally, and warmer temps. Very pleasant in the mid-50s here in the Philly 'burbs.

Still debating about the turkey trot tomorrow. It's a really small race and I'm not in a good place to deal very well with being last right now - a definite likelihood.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

Re: Night time Boomers, week of 11/19/07
I haven't posted for a while to this thread but should. Got a morning run in yesterday and now I know why I like to run at night. It is more peaceful. 6.1 miles in the AM but decided to run on the TM at night, speed work. Did a 20 minutes on the bike as well. I am wondering if Wisconsin will ever see the sun again? The cold rain is getting old already.

I was planning on a turkey trot with DD but it looks like sleet, snow and freezing rain. I'm not sure if she would enjoy the experience as she is new to running.

Tim: as usual good run. Are you running any races in the near future or on Thanksgiving?

evanflein: what does your running routines consist of with freezing rain and sleet? The kind when the temp is low 30's upper 20"s? It seems this is the most difficult temp to be a runner. It sounds like you will run in almost any weather.

choover: I read you ran in the snow already. Snow runs will be part of the routine this year for me as I only ran inside last winter (my first running winter). How is snow running? I'm assuming that it is best to run in the daytime with snow on the ground?

Eliz: go for the run tomorrow especially if the weather looks good.

I have a numerous amount of questions as this will be my first running winter outside. Thanks for any help.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, be thankful we can run!
