Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
You folks are quite impressive with these long runs in the snow and cold. I hate admitting to you that it is very warm here. The Y was closed today so I did 34 unmeasured minutes very slowly on grass, then iced and stretched my foot. I had no pain or discomfort. But it's back to the elliptical tomorrow just the same.

Nice race MC, well thought out.

Pro, that was your funniest post ever. Spareribs

Oh Pro, you are silly!

2 hours for me on the muddy, hilly trails in a blustery storm. Mostly I was protected on the forest trails, but as the trail approached the top of the Butte the roar in the trees from the wind was most impressive!

Sheesh! DaveinAA was bad enough, but now I'm being consistently outdone by the girls, and tselbs adds insult to injury by whipping me on the TM. I'm really going to have to step it up a notch in '08.

But good going to all of you Michigan runners (and swimmers)!

8 miles on the treadmill, 1% incline, at 8:58 mile pace. LSD indeed.

This was a good quality run for me, and gives me 20 for the week.

I don't know where I pulled this one out of, and will refrain from guessing because this is a family forum.

Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
Jeez,

I keep hearing my american friends complaining about tough weather. On my run today the ski doos were bogging down but I kept going. Everyone stayed in the their igloos but I was still running. and after running I still had to strap on the snowshoes and do the trap line to pick up my furs so I can bring them to trading store tomorrow.

Now running in the far north of Canada, is tough. Well gotta go, it's time to make the pemmican.

Take care
Tall

Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
OK, if I can't report a run of my own, I'll report my son's... DS#1 is 24 and lives in Oakland, CA. He was an excellent runner in college but has been very intermittent on his running since then. Recently has started to give it more focus in his life. Back in Oct, on 20-25 mpw he ran a 2 mile fun at a sub-5 pace so he hasn't lost it all. I think he may have secret ambitions of a marathon. (Maybe I inspired him. ) Anyway, this morning he decides to do a long run, a 19 miler. This is pretty much new territory for DS#1. Things go well the first 90 minutes. At 1:40, sudden fatigue. Can you say "glycogen depletion"? Still a ways to go - what to do? Aha! A Burger King! Son dashes in grabs a packet of catsup and a handful of ice cubes and is back on the road. Short-chain carbs help but not for long. Liver glycogen OK so devises plan B - alter course to swing by favorite local bakery. Strolls in - helps self to a slice of the sample de jour and strolls out, (The nerve of some people! At least he is a regular customer.) walks and eats bread, then runs home. Elapsed time incl. "refreshment breaks": 2:24 for 19.0 miles on the hills of Oakland (7:35p). Synopsis post-run: "I've been pretty much useless since this morning, Dad." Ah to be young again! DS#1 lesson's learned: plan ahead for water and fuel on long runs, listen to Dad on post-long run recovery tips. Dad gets: several minutes of joy talking to DS#1, a smile for the rest of the day, and several good ideas for Christmas presents for said son. Life is good.

Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
good afternoon and good runs to all. made it out this morning for a nice chilly run at 7 this morning. 3.2 in 28:20 and 19F. the run home into the wind reminded me that I need to put a pair of wind briefs on my Christmas list . the boys were threatening to go into hiding until spring

Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
Anxious to hear how Larry's marathon went.

Skip, great story about your son! I have this feeling you are going to be giving that boy lots of good advice in the very near future. Sure sounds like he has lots of potential to do well in a marathon. Thanks for sharing. He's probably thinking, "How the heck did Old Dad get through 50 miles???"

BTW, I think I've read all the Seattle RRs but didn't respond individually. Just wanted to let everyone know how much I enjoyed the reports and the pictures. How fun to have a surprise guest!

I traded today's run for 1 hour of yoga. Pretty pitiful mileage for me this week. Will try to do better next week.

My wife says we (men) don't get a brain till we're about 30 years old.

I resemble that remark! Actually, in my case more like 35.

10 really nice miles today @10:26 pace. Temp about 48 with a pretty good wind...25 mph. It actually felt like 48 with a 25 mph wind.

Re: Sunday Dec.2 Boomer Runs
still tuned in here. snow is coming down pretty hard and i think today's planned run is going to be switched for cross training on snowshoes.

loved craig's trials and tribulations, and tall's pemmican. with salt.and skip's son's long run...

i missed you people and the smiles and the warmth - snowy hugs to all (still warm and fuzzy from last night's mariposai dinner, even if we did have to make do with chianti with her delicious spanish food ,
