I am curious to see how many folks have been out on the roads for 3 decades + of running. I've been running consistently for just over 31 1/2 yrs and have logged 65,186 miles. I got a late start after smoking for over 10 yrscurrently 64 and doing more miles per month than I have done in several decades. (MAF Training). Over 400 races. 15 marathons 10+ ultras.

Oh, If we get some folksI would like to be President of the Club. Nick
I started running in 1957 when I went out for track. Then ran for the next 10 years. Went into retirement for 5 years and started up again at 30. I have been running ever since (35 years). Right now my motivation is the alternative, the rocking chair.
I will have run continuously for 30 years in April, although I did some running in 1972 and 1973.
I have run 207 marathons and 45 ultras. I probably have less than 50 shorter races.
I will be 60 in February. I belong to many running clubs and have been a member of many more.

I'm 52 and have been running, more or less continuously, since I was 14 and went out for high school track. I say more or less continuously since there have been weeks and even months when I didn't run at all, when I was in my 20s and focused on career, marriage and personal problems. However, when my father died of heart disease when I was 29 (he was 54) I began running several times a week and haven't stopped since. I'm now two years away from being 54 and have done 2 marathons and 2 century bike rides in the past year. Good to go for another 30 years.
I don't know if I qualify. Although I say I've been running for 40+ years, during college I pretty much goofed off since I couldn't play soccer (SJSU was a powerhouse compared to my skill). Then for many more years I ran only to support my soccer habit. For many years I was guy who could play the entire 90 minutes. Late eighties I started doing some road races. Only in the past 5 yrs have I switched over entirely to "straight ahead sports" (swim/bike/run).

......good thread//.....
..I'm 57, been running for 38-years (since age 19)
......one time I figured I did 6,000-miles in my first decade,,,back then it seemed like a lot,,,,
..... I now try to run a Week (168-hours) a year........total, not all at once....
or I'd be REALLY tired......
.......I raced for a decade,
but tore out ankle ligaments,
and noticed all my buddies were quitting due to injuries....
.......so I've been a Fitness Runner since 1985.........pretty much all I want from my running.....
the main thing in long-term running is to know what you Want to Get from your Running...
.........and this group seems to know what they want....
........nice post President Nick////

I started running in 1968 and have been at it ever since, so I'll be coming up on 40 years in 2008. Can't believe it!
I have no idea how many miles I've run, but I've run or been involved on the organization side in over 1000 races.
Running since I was 12-almost 32 years ago

Ran track and cross-country including nationals in cross-country all through junior high school and high school. Coach produced lots of state and regional champions back then and I hung on for the ride.

Continued the running in college-Division III, but competitive at the regional and national levels and most of all had great fun and made lifetime friends.
Still running with a break of a few months when my son was born in 1994 and then 6 months off for major surgery and radiation in 2002. It's been an almost constant ride and I hope to keep going as long as I can. I still jump into races and try to run decent times, but the real focus is fitness, social therapy and the chance to just be out there doing something I love.
I have no idea how many miles I have logged. I have run 27 marathons since 1986 and many years I get up around 2,500 miles.
Fun thread----haven't really thought about all the years together like this!

I started running in June of 1979, so I still have a year and a half to go, unless I can count the three years of track and cross country from high school in the 1960's.
Nick, I have 28 years and 3 months to go to qualify for the 30+ club, but thanks in large part to your wonderful posts over on the newbie forum, I'm confident that I'll get there - two months after I turn 75. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!
Oh, and I think you need a more significant title than President. How about Grand Pubah for Life?
