HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR?
-
Like (0)
If you are like me I set my running goals every year around the first of the year for the coming year. I then place my list in the front of my running log. In December I return to my list to see how I progressed. My first goal was to get my weight down to 185, I did reach this for awhile during summer and early fall, but with injuries after fall marathon I have settled back to around 200-195, ok sort of.
Number 2 was three marathons- I reached this goal in May, doing 3 in 7 weeks.
Number 3- 1400 miles in year. I currently have 1410 miles this year.
Number 4- 23 min. 5k I ran 22:18 the end of September in 1 of my home town races.
Number 5- 10k in 49 min. I missed this one with a best of 51:20 in Feb. I ran only 3 of these this year and all of the rest of them in July, in high heat.
Number 6- 90 min. 10 mile. I did 85:30 in Bayshore marathon, but in the Crim our featured race in the area I missed with 90:01, close but no cigar.
Number 7- 52 runs of over 10 miles. I currently have 51 and hope to break that next week.
Goals for next year
3 marathons, PR in 5k10k and 10 mile Crim, 1500 miles, 50 runs of over 10 miles, and a 3:58:00 or less in a marathon.
Run long and run well
Marathon Derrick
Thanks to MarkGuy, here's the link to our 2007 Goals[/URL" target="_blank">. However, page 1 is missing. I haven't had a chance to think about goals for 2008 yet.
I met all of mine:
1. Remain injury free. (YES!)
2. 1,000 annual miles. (Almost to 1,100 - YES!)
3. Maintain consistent monthly mileage especially during the winter months. (Yes! a March HM helps this goal)
4. Improve core strength. (Yes! regularly attend yoga & pilates classes)
5. Run more races with DH. (Yes! We ran 3 HMs, 2 10ks, 1 5 mile, 1 5k together)
6. Run 2 half marathons. (Yes! I ran 4: Shamrock in VaBeach, Deadwood-Mickelson Trail, Billings, Bizz Johnson in CA)

Where's that confounded 2007 goals note?
grumble grumble..

......actually, once I got this Back Problem Whipped (which STILL amazes me)......
..........the other Goals Paled in Comparison...
.....I'm still close to my 168-hour goal,
but don't really care if I hit it or not.......
I didn't have a milage goal. To run the number of races and types of races that I have this year, the distance has taken care of it's self.
I've run the number of races I've wanted to.
Finished my first marathon.
Now, what's injury free??? After a few runs, I've had a limp that last a few days. Or is it something we have a Dr. look at???
I competed, I finished the race, I kept the faith.
----
Either I didn't participate in that thread or I was on page 1. But I'm sure that I met at least two goals:
- Run injury-free (no injuries that stopped me from running)
- Set an HM PR
I'll have to think up some for when we get the 2008 thread going.
Derrick: Congrats on setting such a group of challenging goals and then achieving them.

I gotta re-think this whole goal thing.

My primary goal for 2007 was to to focus in being open to all opportunities to perform random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty Re: HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR?
For personal wellness my goal was to:
1- Run 1,000 miles this year Re: HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR? I am nearing 1,300 miles.
2- Run 2 marathons and 2 half Re: HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR? did 3 marathons
3- PR in my next marathon Re: HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR? a PR by 36 minutes
4- Loose 20 pounds by my birthday[not there yet] lost 14 pounds and gained muscles.
5- Find a runner wantnabie and serve as a mentor to him/her Re: HAVE YOU MET YOUR RUNNING GOALS FOR THE YEAR? she just ran her first race last weekend.
6- Learn Italian[did I say that?] I guess I better get busy with this goal.

I think I put my goals in my local neighborhood thread, so I don't think even have page one of the boomer goals would help me. I'm pretty sure there were more, but the only two I can remember are as follows:
- 1500 miles for the year
This might have been only 1200, in which case I'll come
close (right at 1100 today)
- 25:xx 5K
I started the year with a 5K PR of just under 28 minutes,
and just missed with a 26:03 in October
Already got some good ideas for 2008 goals, but I'll wait for the new thread.
This is a good reminder, while there is a bit of time left in the year. OK, how did I do?
2007 Running Goals
1) Be injury free
(Yes!!! Yay!)
2) Run over 1000 miles
( Looks very good, with 969 miles so far, probably will be around 1025 miles).
3) Improve race times over '06 in 5K, 10K, 10 mile, and HM
(good improvement for 5K, HM; not quite for 10K, didn't run 10 miler this year)
4) Run a mile in under seven minutes
(should be able to finish this in the time remaining)
5) Volunteer for at least one race
(uh, had my chances, but didn't get it done, will have to volunteer twice next year)
6) Meet more Cool Running Boomers
(met some, dromedary, among others - certainly regret not being able to meet tet at the Green River Marathon, but it is on the calendar for 08)
hey husky, thanks. glad you'll be back for this year's Green River Marathon & Relay[/URL" target="_blank">. With only 50 runners, I'm still tryin' to figure out how three boomers missed each other. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|border=0!
================
2007 running goals - sadly, even though it should have been a big 30th anniversary year of running at least one marathon a year since 1977, I couldn't come up with a single special goal for the 2007 but somehow ended up with the running year of my life with redeeming missing the 14 hour cutoff in last year's 50-miler and having an official finish too in my first foray into the endurance netherland beyond with a last-minute 100K (15 hours), and celebrating marathon #100 with a dozen boomer friends, including Mr. Surprise at my favorite Seattle Marathon.
Since aamos and divechief lured me into boomerland at the 2004 SM, my running life has changed from rote and routine to joyous and exciting. thank you all. I can hardly wait for 2008.

Me, too. I don't remember which. I know at this time last year my focus was on training for and running my first marathon, and I did that (ran 2 actually).
I'm not very good at making lists of specific goals. I tend to have a vague idea in my head and sort of drift towards it, in a haphazard and piecemeal way.

Yes, I did set goals for 2007 and very please to report on them.
Try to stay injury free - Successful, no injuries this year
run a 5K in under 24:00 - shattered it with breaking 22
Run a 10K - Ran two 10Ks 7:37 and 7:41 pace, faster than my 5K and 5M pace from previous years
For 2008,
1. Stay Injury Free
2. Break 7:00 mile pace for 5K
3. Break 37 min 5M
4 Break 46:30 10K
5 Run a half marathon
2007, my second full year of running, was very successful for me, in no small part due to what I’ve learned from this forum. Thanks again.
My original goals and update
1.
Continue to stay healthy and injury free.
Run regularly (average 30 miles/wk; about 1,600+ miles).
Do modest strength work and stretching regularly.
Maintain my weight below 160.
Run at least 6 of the 10 local "Grand Prix" races.
Run a sub-4 marathon.
Like Holly, I don't write down goals, but have ideas of things I want to accomplish. I guess this is one way of not being too disappointed when life gets in the way and original goals have to fall by the wayside. I set out 2007 to just be better than 2006, which was plagued by injuries and personal "bumps" in the road. Taking time off at the end of 2006, then rebuilding a good solid base helped me avoid injuries this year, AND set PRs in all distances this year. The PR thing wasn't a goal originally, but after the first couple, it became something I worked at over the summer.
If I had to ID two big goals, it would be the injury-free running year (yes!!) and the BQ. Once I got that, I wanted more... then hit Marathon Maniac status and two more BQ times this fall. So... things kind of morph as they go. Now the goal is silver level Maniac status... which will carry over into 2008.
So I guess yes, I met my goals, and kept adding new ones to keep me going.
