Hey Josh,

GJ on the pacing run. Maybe I will see you in the race as well. I might just through any time targets out the window and run off feel. If I end out running near you and you want to share pacing duties let me know.

I'm putting all my eggs in one last ditch training effort this week. I am on pace to hit 160-MPW. I don't plan on tapering the volume down much. Just backing off the speed as the race day approaches.

Hope you guys have a fun time despite the setbacks.

Sure man. If we happen to meet up, I'd be more than happy to have someone to run with. Makes it a little more fun. I'll be wearing a white singlet with Atlanta Track Club Competitive Team printed in red.

Last long run in 2 days - this is the one time I'm looking forward to the taper so I can sleep in, cut back mileage, and heal up!

Come on Chris!
Don't jinx yourself now

By the way, since you have kids I'm not sure you know what sleeping in is.

If I were in Cincy I'd join you on that run, but I will be in Ohio, but further north near Cleveland running a Sat:10M/Sun:50K on trails. Then let the taper begin.

Woo hoo! I finally got my race packet today. The official jackets look sweet! Is anyone preordering them, or do you wait until the expo?

Edited to add: It is too bad Team Hoyt won't be running this year!

I think we're aiming for the same goal ( 2:50 ? ) so hopefully we'll see each other as we cross the line in 2:49:00 ...

I'm planning on about a 9 miler next Sunday...not sure about the pace? Should I stick with normal long run pace...or push a little faster?

You will probably get a variety of answers on this one. I think the key is how you feel. If you are feeling nice and healthy and rested, I would run 6 really easy and then pick it up in the last 3 to marathon pace.

I wouldn't go any faster than that. Save your real speed for Boston. If you are tired, hurt or sluggish at all, just do the whole thing slow. The key is that the run should feel relatively easy - this is more important than any specific pace.

FWIW, I have 12 planned and I intend to do the first 6 easy, then MP the last 6 depending on how I feel. I like to start feeling what MP really is during these last few weeks. But again, I wouldn't push it at this stage of the game.

Re: it's TIME for THE OFFICIAL BOSTON MARATHON THREAD
I don't mean to be heavy about the transportation issue. But reading the text extracted from Runner's World I remembered that that was where I had read about the T being free. And yes, then I heard these people at home who had been able to ride for free.
I decided to contact the MBTA and this is the answer I got:

We apologize for any confusion you may have, but the MBTA does not have
a policy allowing Boston Marathon participants to ride for free. If
operators in the past have granted free rides to marathon participants,
they did so at their own discretion, but should have followed the fare
policies in place.
We hope this information was helpful.

Thank you for contacting the MBTA.

So... some people were very lucky and what Runner's World said about flashing your number and riding for free was bogus.
