This was the first time we tried and we both are gonna do it! The problem is....We are signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon the week before!!!!
Oh well, Mind over matter! If you don't mind, it don't matter!

I'm in the MCM as well, and I just don't think the turn around time of 7 days is quite enough for me. I'm transferring to the 10K and running with my sis. Fits in as a nice taper, and I'll get to cheer on all my friends!

Re: NYC Marathon

For those running in this, have you found a hotel room?  Holy crap is it expensive!  Driving down there from Boston and staying for two nights is easily going to cost me over $1000.  I already promised the gf that we would stay there for that weekend.  I seriously hate New York.

Anyone know of any places that I can stay for a reasonable price?

Re: NYC Marathon

Try bed and breakfasts. They're usually cheaper.

I got a room at 55th and 8th Avenue. It's called Eden House. We're paying $215 a night, which is cheap compared to other hotels/motels.

I found mine and booked it even before I knew I got into the marathon. I figured that was better. I'd still have to pay them 25 percent of the total bill if I cancelled ... even four months in advance. It sucks. But ... I'd have a room. And from the looks of their Web site ... the room is sweet. I'm two blocks from Columbus Circle and about 2 miles from the finish line. We're in Midtown/Hell's Kitchen area.

Good luck.

That place Eden House looks sweet. I requested a price quote from them and if I can get the same deal that would be great.

No kidding. I registered with two other people that I know, one from San Diego and one from Manhattan. They let me and my friend from SD in, but not my friend in NYC.

Re: NYC Marathon

I'm heading down with a couple of my friends in our running group.  We have been trying for the past couple of weeks to really get things going with accomodations and things just fell into place for us this past week.

I happened to be on a recovery run with Joan Benoit that was set up by another of my running friends and we were talking about Joan's run at New York last year with Lance. When I mentioned that we were heading down this year for the race, this friend who is the Managing Director of Corporate Marketing for NASCAR mentioned that he was going to be out of town on business during the marathon and offered his place on the 36th Floor of the Park Avenue Tower to us. Not believing our good fortune we graciously accepted. From my understanding this place is only a mile or so from the finish line. Now to set up a rental van for the drive down and we are good to go!

How sweet is that? !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

Re: NYC Marathon

Back in the day (when I couldn't even dream of doing a Marathon), I think I saw something like a guide for spectators on how to follow the race (like taking the subway efficiently to important spots in the race). Does anybody have a link for something like this?

It should get posted to the website soon and there will be info at the expo.

My SO and I just got out the course map and the subway map and found our own places that were not the ones the other Million + spectators would be going to.
