Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Loopy I would LOVE to collect during the run - just on the off chance that I start off with, say, 60 people and I'm down to 5 after 22 miles. That NEVER happens! Must be the horrible pacing I do.

Baggs Totally agree - I foolishly started way back the first time I did WDW and immediately got trapped behind a ton of people. Lesson learned. But it is kinda cool to run with the top women - same thing at Marine Corps when I ran from mile 8 to about 21 with the eventual 3rd place woman. I helped her a bit (drafting and pacing and such) and she reeled in 3-4 women, so that was kinda fun.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Baggio, if a sub-3 seems possible in the Goofy, I would definitely be interested in an unofficial pace group. Though I think 3:10ish is more likely. Then again, it is a long way off still, so you never know. And as srlopez points out, a lot will depend on last minute conditions (i.e. the weather).

SRLopez, yeah you would think the least they could do would be to aggregate the time for us for all the $$$ we are handing them. Though it does look like several people post unofficial Goofy Results[/URL" target="_blank">.

PacerChris forget CLIF BAR, you should freelance and charge by the mile marker - you'd be all set!

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Yup. Those Goofy results were compiled by a coolrunning poster (and Maniac). Around here he's "Reel Trouble". Haven't seen him post in awhile.

Good luck with your training. Has anyone tried to book a Disney property online for Jan? I tried last month, and it was too far into the future... the site wouldn't let me. I suppose I'll try again sometime soon.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
I booked the Polynesian a few weeks ago but I went through a Disney travel agent-not online. They booked my room at the 2007 rate and will adjust my cc for the increase when 2008 rates are established. FYI for those asking about the dining plan: I have never done any of the plans but we have stayed at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian with the concierge service. That has worked well for us (3 kids-7 and under) Basically they have food and drinks available all day if you just want to grab something quick. My kids aren't really into sitting down for meals when we are at Disney! I'm not in the same running league as the rest of you-I'm just doing the HM-I need to conserve my energy to chase the kiddies around the parks for the next 6 days I am excited to go-this is my first time running at Disney

My wife booked rooms through AAA, as Kruss pointed out, they just use the old rates and then readjust. I would suggest reserving a room soon, because some options were already booked up! Note that this was just the blocks of rooms allotted to AAA for discounted rates, but still it is obvious that rooms for marathon weekend are filling fast...

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Actually, loopy, for 2007, I didn't book until October and I was still able to find a moderate-level room at Port Orleans Riverside. Lots of stuff was booked, but it wasn't hard to find something. And there are approximately 1,000,000 other hotel options nearby that aren't Official Mouse.

I think post-holidays is a low-season time... so they can handle the influx of marathoners. We're a rowdy bunch, but not quite like folks in summer or right around Christmas .

That said, I'm still going to book sooner than October this time.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Loopy: I have fallen asleep and missed this. My DW and I are doing Goofy again(my 3rd and her 2nd). I agree with others who mention the qty of food. We always stay on property(Boardwalk Villas) but don't do DDP as way too much food. I like walking back from the finish to our room. One less bus ride.

I hate having to get up at 2:30 2 mornings in a row

I would hope they will do official results but I have a friend who crunches the numbers and I post them on my site. I talked to the RD about increasing the numbers above 3,000 or it will fill in a week or two in 09. He said they are considering it.

I am unhappy the raised the fee $25 for the Goofy but we do get a 3rd shirt

Looking forward to the "surprise" of the 15th Ann medal!

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Hello everyone,
I am new to this board, but I have been reading it for quite a while. I will be running my first Goofy this year with 4 other friends, my second Disney. Any hints on training? Our goal is simply to finish on two feet. I think I am going to combine a marathon and 1/2 training plan using the long runs off the 1/2 to run on sunday after my long run on Sat. or vice versa.
Any thoughts on Training?

Good luck with training and we'll see you Jan.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Most people start building an increasing long day on Sat as you increase the Sunday Marathon long run. They build this up over the last couple of months of training.

Take the 1/2 very easy, saving as much of your legs for the marathon. Ididn't do that in 06 and was sore for the full. Went really easy in the 1/2 in 07, and my legs felt great for the marathon.

You can visit my site and Forum for lots of Goofy vetrans.

See you in Jan.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forums. I'm not running the Goofy (definately couldn't handle it). I'm running the full and it will be my first marathon. Like some of the others here, I'm a Disney nerd, so I figured it'd be a good first one to do. If it works out that I'm uncomfortable the whole time, and least I'll be in an environment that I enjoy.

Also, I live in Florida, so the occasional overpass is all I get for hill training. The flat course will be welcome.

Anyway, it's good to see people talking about it so early. I certainly won't be racing for sub 3:00 or 3:10.....but if you all wait around long enough, maybe you'll see me at the finish.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Brian: As you can see by my name, I am the same way I always use the Disney races as an excuse to travel across country to spend 10-11 days at WDW. I am going for my 3rd Goofy and 4th WDW marathon.

The race is great for people like us, bring a camera so you take get many pics with characters. CM's will help with this. My site has many pics and reports. My forum also has lots of Disney newbies.

Good luck and see you in Jan. I am a slow person so don't fret. That's why Disney gives you 7 hrs.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
I agree, I ran disney last year for the first time and signed up for goofy before I left Florida. We simply took our time, took many pics and had a blast.

Disney running.com is an excellent site I check it out very frequently. Good luck with everybody's training and we'll see you in Jan.

Brian.

Re: Goofy Challenge 08
Robert, Jim and Brian,

Thanks for the welcome. It already feels a little like family.

Robert, I checked out your site and especially enjoyed the mile by mile report of the marathon.....very inspiring. Oddly, it never really occured to me that the first few miles would be dark. The pics of the fireworks at the start were cool. It will be nice to see something of the start from all the way in the back.
