Last year in CIM, I successfully implemented a "cut down" approach for a 3:20:46 PR and BQ.
For this marathon, I will do the following:
1st 2 miles @ 7:54
next 2 miles @ 7:44
next 2 miles @ 7:34
final miles to finish @ 7:24
This method allows you to start slower and finish strong.
If anyone is targeting around this time, I'd be interested in running along side of you, if possible.
I and a friend will be running Phily this coming weekend as well. He is looking for a BQ3:15 and I am looking to knock off another state.
I like your approach. I have done the start slower, finish faster method. The 2005 and 2006 Flying Pig Marathons. I started out with the 3:20Pace Group, ran with them for 5-6 miles and ended up with a 3:06 and 3:07. To top it off I ran a 3-4 minute negative split in both races.
Good luck to you! cr
