Sweet deal! I'm aiming for 3:40-3:50 in Chicago and whatever I can get in NYC based off how Chi-town goes.

Ran a 22 miler last weekend and felt fantastic!!! I've also hit the highest weekly mileage ever, last week @70 miles. Training is treating me well thus far.

Keep up the great work everyone and stay healthy!!

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering when this thread would start! I'm running my first NYCM (my second marathon) with DH after 3 years of us both trying to get in the lottery at the same time. I'm also using the NYCM casual marathoner schedule. I'm not fast, so I'm shooting for around 4:30 or so. I'm planning on doing 16 on saturday and then I'm leaving for Italy for 2 weeks (needless to say I'm starting carbo loading a bit early!). I'll be hiking in the Dolomite mountains for a week and I hope to get a few runs in in Rome and Venice. Hopefully the training plan won't suffer too much while I'm away. I'm looking forward to sharing the rest of the journey to NYC with you folks!

hi everyone!

i'm running nyc too - this will be my first marathon!

i'm up to 18 miles this weekend, but had to take a planned 12 miler off last weekend as i was sick...definitely enjoying the cooler weather, i hope it lasts!

no goals really, just want to finish - i guess my secret goal would be to run under 4:45, and my super secret goal would be to run under 4:30

good luck everyone!

i'm on the uws in manhattan -- anyone else with me?

mtngirl, your trip sounds amazing!! color me jealous.

sooo.. let me ask the NYers, is it necessary to buy the bus tickets? is there absolutely no other way to get to the start?

hey missy there is always the ferry which you will need to check the schedule for service. i think on Sunday's it runs every hour on the hour in the early am hours then you'll have to bus it to fort wadsworth. Have someone drop you off by car get there early. The police do not play around and are strick with ramp closing to the fort. The bus is convienent. No worries/no hassles especially if you are already in the city.

I too am doing a double, although I am running the Maine Marathon on October 7 and then New York. I am currently training for a 3:20 as well and will see how things look. I may "race" in Maine for the 3:20 and then run a more leisurely pace for a 3:30-3:35 at New York as well.

Training is going well with a few races thrown in to boot. I actually ran an unexpected 5K PR this past weekend of 19:25...of course McMillan predicts a 3:09:17 marathon time...I'm certainly not there yet. My scheudule for the rest of the week: 10 miles tonight, 7 Friday, 3 Saturday and 10 Sunday (next Sunday will be a long one of 22). Although on Saturdays I run with a group and we almost always run 8-10 miles which doesn't seem to interfere with my training.

Good Luck everyone and stay healthy.

Missy Like Roxanne already wrote, you can take the Staten Island Ferry to a bus that will get you to the Fort Wadsworth area. I took the bus last year from the Public Library and will do the same this year. Honestly, it was easy peasey and did not take all that long at all.

Breger I'm also using Pfitz's 18/70 plan and am LOVING it! I've previously used his 18/55 plan so I'm familiar with his style but the bump in mileage this time around is significant and quite empowering. Hope you're loving it as much as I am.

RunningINnyc yeah, I like it too, but it is tough sometimes. The difference between Pfitz's 18/55 and 18/70 is noticeable, especially to someone who is not particularly fast - meaning me! I am an early morning runner (gotta get to work!) and those midweek 14 mile MLR's take up a lot of my predawn hours.

Being in flat S. Fl. the hills on the NYC Marathon are a bit disconcerting but I'll deal with 'em then!

Bill

Yeah I too am finding that McMillan's estimates are pretty accurate, with the exception of the marathon. But I am getting close and the 19:25 5K PR is recent so I think that shows that my training is paying off. Plus I haven't trained for the faster marathon yet and I am looking for a 3:20 this year after a PR last year of 3:26. The ultimate goal will be a sub 3 hour marathon within the next few years., before I get much older!

<HR>

I don't think there are many, if any at all, closings coming onto Staten Island from the NJ side. You may be able to get decently close.

Simon, so you're doing MCM too? OK, so we got another crazy person on the thread. I "did" those two last year... ran the MCM and then just watched NYC (I wasn't accepted, and while everybody was enjoying form the sidelines I felt really bad cause I couldn't be IN the race....)

Today was a good day for us! We ran 7 yesterday and 11 today. It was much cooler this weekend compared to last weekend.
We were really struggling last week, and were starting to get worried. I think that we will be able to do this no matter how crazy it sounds. I don't know how we BOTH got acceptedthe first try!

17 miles around Central Park yesterday. It was very humid. I included the Great Hill twice and Cat Hill three times. I'll be more prepared than I was for Chicago last year.
