What to eat??

I am training for my first marathon next month, and I have read Carmichael's eat right to train right book. But I wanted to know what people eat right after a long run? For me, that is after 1.5 hrs of straight running, no stops!
I feel like I am actually gaining weight because I feel starved afterwards! I just want to make the right choices so that I will not gain, but also food that will give me energy for the rest of the day!!

Right after a long workout, I'll eat a meal of 80g carbs, 20g protein, and relatively low fat. Also, don't spare the salt. When I'm marathon training I'm 138 lbs., adjust accordingly. I'll eat a normal meal a couple hours after the recovery meal.

I am an endurance Mountain bike racer. I use a recovery drink that has a 4:1 Carbohydrate to protein ratio that gives me boost (carbs) and helps with repairing my muscles (protein). Since starting this I find I'm not dragging all afternoon and my muscles are not as sore the next day.

There are dozens of products out there but my personal favorite is InfinIT nutrition's Fluid Recovery www.infinitnutrition.com. This is because there is no Fructose which tends to make me feel bloated. It also has some antioxidants which are always good for recovery.

I prefer a drink immediately post workout then a meal, good carbs and lean protein 1-2 hours later. This gives my stomach a chance to recover from a hard work-out before I eat solid food. I'm talking 2-6 hour rides here.

Good Luck,
K
