I assumed that you would be assigned a corral based on the fastest race you qualified with...not some future effort. Are you able to resubmit a better qualifying time later on to change your seeding?

I'm waiting a few weeks to register intent on achieving a faster time next weekend. There won't be in any danger of being shut-out. Last year, Boston didn't reach their registration limit of 24,000 until the end of March.

I will be a Boston first-timer in 2008 and am really looking forward to it! It looks fun on TV. And I'm especially amped to see the Women's US Olympic trials marathon as well![/b]<HR>

No difference - just the service charge/convenience.

When will the 2008 Boston marathon fill up? Isn't the number 25,000 for 2008 for entrants? I am running Philly this year on November 18th. I need 3:10:59 or quicker to make Boston. I ran Boston 07 in 3:38 with a qualifying time from Montreal of 3:10:50. I just ran Quebec this year in 3:49 with plenty of walking. My training is going well now with 47 miles in September already. I recovered without any major soreness due to all the walking.

It won't fill up for a while and even that it still might not really fill up!

My, my, my - someone sounds mighty confident of running a good time at Air Force, don't they?! Based on some of your recent runs/races, I'd say you've got a good shot at it!

I'm waiting till after NYC to register for Boston - hoping that I'll run well at Air Force but better at NYC. I'm not sure if my Boston time this year would get me first corral for sure or not.

Does anyone know the details of corral placement for Boston? Specifically, would there be any different placement for a 3:19 time vs. a 3:20 time? My guess is no.

Hi Crunningman,

Are you already entered or are you signing up in January? You must be in and then trying to replace your time with a better one, right?Neridgerunner

I'll wait to register after I run Houston in January. The liklihood of it filling up by then is well, highly unlikely . If it does then I'll run something else.

Right now I have a 3:12 from the 2006 Columbus Marathon, but that was a week after running a 50 Mile race. If I can get things in gear late this fall and make progress by the end of December then I have an outside chance of cracking the 3:00 barrier once again. Like everyone else I really need to put the time in.

I believe it's dependent upon other people's times...they want 1000 runners per corral, so the top 1000 times are in #1, next 1000 in #2, etc. Last few years, 3:19 would probably put you in #7 or 8, my guess (I have some friends who used those times and that's where they were). Last year I was towards the end of corral 1 and a friend with a time just 3-4 minutes slower was in the 2,000's so you never know.

Crunningman - what marathon(s) are you thinking of doing? I asume you aren't doing Air Force this weekend?

Boston assigns 1000 runners per corral. In the (unlikely) event that the cutoof time between corrals happens to be between 3:19 and 3:20, it could be the difference of one corral. Not that it really matters....

Hey Chris! Pacing a buddy @ Chicago / 3:20:59 , who has been trying to BQ for about 3-4 years now. My plan was to go faster, but I'm putting that off until January @ Houston.

Dang - you have some old friends! I run with some guys that are in the same age range - another running pal of mine only needs a 4:00 time so imagine how old THAT dude is (he could probably kill me with his bare hands if he caught me - I always tease him for being ancient)

Chris,

You walk a fine line between insult and inspiration. Knowing you the way I do, I take everything you say as encouragement. We are looking at a high of 65 on Saturday. I'm starting to feel really good about a 10 min. PR. I might have to break out the gloves.

Your '07 Boston time was a new PR correct? If you already started in corral 1 there's no way you are moving back next year. I, on the other hand, have room to improve. Hopefully that means that I won't have to run a as far catch up to you . I'm thinkin' you should start looking over your shoulder around Ashland.

Some are inspired by insults - so I let them fly! I would LOVE to need some gloves on Sat - that would be sweet. I'd be happy with a starting temp in the 60's so low 50's would be manna from heaven.

Boston '07 was 2 minutes slower than my PR - I'm probably right on the cusp between corrals right now, so I hope to make it all a moot point first at Air Force and then at NYC!

Not sure if you were going to run the first 2-4 miles with the 3:10 pacer - if memory serves he started out a little crazy fast last year and ended up toast by 17/18 (I think he rolled in around 3:17). If you've not done AF before, wait until you come down the backside of the big hill at 2 to start getting on pace and then really start picking it up after 8-10 miles to take advantage of a) feeling fresh, b) flat section of the course, c) the still-cool temps of the morning before it starts to warm up, and d) your kick *** training the last few months! It's sparse enough in the front of the pack that I usually start counting the # of people I pass after mile 8 or 10 and try to see how many I can get. That's always helped me at Air Force for some reason - one year I got over 50!

I'll look for you at the start line - good luck!

I had no idea registration was open already. thanks for the heads up. Plenty of time to register, though.
