Re: Grand Rapids Marathon (& half) - 10/28
Hey rootsrunner--I went back and read your one of your earlier posts--though there are a few turn arounds and loops as an out and back the course is well designed to make them loops and not 180 degree turns. There is only one at mile 20-21ish and yeah it is the 180 degee style turn around an orange cone, but the rest of the time things are real wide and managable loops.

Have a great race

Lows in the 40's, highs in the 50's would have been a bit better. I'm not complaining though. It's suppose to rain the day before so watch out for those frozen puddles.

What's everyone wearing? I think I'm going to go with shorts, a long sleeve tech shirt, a short sleeve tech shirt, cheap gloves and a stocking hat to start.

Yes, the weather looks ideal. I can hardly believe my eyes after 2 marathons with crazy weather this year (Boston and Twin Cities)!! I hope it is all true!

With that said, I have run 2 marathons in conditions exactly like predicted and it was awesome. While the first mile is cold, you will heat up quickly. I intend to wear my running skirt, a singlet, a running hat and cheap gloves to throw off. Depending on how cold it actually is at the start, I may also wear a throwaway long sleeve on top.

I am hoping I feel better soon - I have been sick the last 2 days (stomach virus?). Yuck.

I signed up. Its appears the field size is just right (1,650 Full, 850 half).

Looking for insight on the course.

I thought that field size sounded great too - it looks like they have 3000 runners now according to the e-mail from the RD this morning. Since the half has been closed for quite some time, that probably means 2150 for the full. I hope that isn't too much for this course . . . .I believe they usually only have 1250.

I hope to see you guys out there! I will have red and white gloves on pre-race and probably a similar outfit and the same hat as in my profile pic... Come say HI if you see me.

Hey Lloyd!

Nice pics at Mo.

I signed up yesterday. Will be making the trip up on Sunday morning since the drive is less than 2hrs. Definitely not in 3:14 shape right now, but hopefully I will be by Phily(11/18). Good luck to you there. The plan is to line up with the 3:29:24 Pacer. Safe travels to you as well. I'll look for you around the 3:14 Pacer.

By the way! What part of WI are you from?

I grew up in WI and my whole family still lives near the Benton, Cuba City, Platteville areas on the Southwest corner of the state.

Hey Craig,

I am in Cottage Grove, which is just a few minutes east of Madison.

I definitely need some well wishes for my travels as I get to take I-90 through Chicagoland. Not fun.

See ya'll on Sunday!!!

Know exactly where that is at. I lived in Madison for a year. One of the best places to live in my opinion.

Re: Grand Rapids Marathon (& half) - 10/28
I'll be walking over from my hotel about 7:30, and will line up with the 3:44 pacer, which should get me in about about 1:52 for the half if I can keep it up. I'm only concerned about starting right out at my target pace, since it usually takes me about 2-3 miles to really get warmed up (especially on a cold day).

My profile pic was taken at this same event in '05, and I'll probably be wearing the exact same outfit.

Craig- Excellent, we'll meet again. What is this 3:30 nonsense? I expect to see you at the usual spot - near mile 18 - and for you to pull me along to a PR.

Lloyd- Yes, we meet again. Houstons my goal race. To keep everything in perspective I can only hope a 3:30 is achievable. You know I'd push you to a PR if I had it in me.

Cool, Doug. I'll keep a lookout for you too. I am off for a short run then hitting the car for Grand Rapids. The weather gods appear to be cooperating. Safe travels and fleet feet to all!

corland - I just checked out your profile too - I hope to see you. GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Grand Rapids Marathon (& half) - 10/28
Hey all - I was a little disappointed b/c while the Flickr pics were great - there were none of me! Today I googled GRM photos and found out there was an official race photographer there too - with lots of pics. I am surprised GRM doesn't link to that on their website. But, I wanted to let you all know in case you are in the same boat.....

I hope you are all recovering well.
