Any one here doing "Another Dam 50k" in Ohio next week

Another small ultra(40 people registered for this Saturday). I'll most likely be there if I can recover from a race last Saturday.

Course is a 7.9 loop completed 4 times. Description also says "There are only 3 hills on the course of any significance". lol! Translation?--> 3 back breaking hills.

I am doing the race. I have heard from several different people that it is pretty runnable. I am planning on using it as a training run for Mohican, which is in 3 weeks, so I will not be "racing".

Maybe I will see you there.

Wow - for such a small race looks like Cool Running will be well represented there! I'm in for it as well - my first trail ultra (other than a botched & aborted 50 mile attempt a few years back!) My buddy is all gung ho to get after it and go for the course record but since we don't know the trail AT ALL I plan on taking the first loop kinda easy to figure it out (like 7:15-7:30 road pace kind of effort).

I'll be getting to the park around 7:15 - I'll probably be wearing a Pirates cap and searching for a porta-potty to offload some ballast! See you then/there!

Indeed, it does look like Cool Running will be very well represented!

Hopefully the weather will break a little by Saturday and give everyone a break from the heat.

This race has been on my radar, but the injury bugaboo has always gotten in the way. I look forward to reading all the reports!

The report I looked at had the temp around 80 (high) with the possibility of rain Friday and Saturday.

It has been unseasonably warm lately ...

With this being the first "hot weather" race of the season, most of mortals will need to adjust our expectations accordingly.

On the other hand, there is no quicker way to get your body acclimated to the heat.

Pass the S-Caps.

Screw that - the faster you run the sooner you're done!! At least that works in 5k's, not sure about 10 5k's in a row.

I did a 5.4 mile trail race a few weeks ago and decided fast trail running ain't my bag - too much skill required on downhills to avoid hitting the trees. So I'm hoping that a longer race and slower pace will be more my thang.

Sorry for the hijack Chris, but...

Come on. You can take it. Just go all out. I mean it's only a 50K for godsakes In all seriousness, you are taking the right approach and not trying to kill yourself. Got to leave something left for those road marathons.

Methinks you are saying that because I'm a Steeler fan...and you'd love nothing more than to see me yacking on the side of the trail after 16 miles, right?!

Actually, I think I just may make the trip (about 2 1/2 hours for me) as a training run for Mohican. It will be run slowly of course.

So if you are running Mohican, let me know... and I will look for you! -- Suzanne
