Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

HEY THANKS A LOT FOR THE INFO. !!!! I tried this and it worked. Thank you soooo much. During the horrible "conversion" NONE of my data didn't transferred over so I was glad to recover it from the old site.

Also, after I saved it to excel I noticed some of the daily entries just show ####### as the date! What's up with that? Can you tell me how to fix it??

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
try expanding the column in the excel file - your data is there - you just need more room to display all the info. - hope this helps! see you in runningahead.com!

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
Yeah I totally agree! But why in the world would they want to make anything easy? The stupid name/password change **** was the most confusing thing ever so it's really no surprise that this makes me want to throw my computer against the wall! Agh!

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

Thank you for coming up with the solution. I have my data and I'm off to find a new log site as well.

The features that are missing here are incredible. No free shoe tracker, no weekly/monthly totals, no customized workouts, no routes, no heart rate data (sorry if I don't know how many seconds I have put in each HR zone, can I average it out please?). But I can record every tedious piece of data from a strength training workout? It seems as if all the effort to put together this site is in all the wrong places. I think the bottom line is that this site is not for runners.

Good luck to all.

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
Thank you so much! It really does work. I've been frustrated all week because the Active.com customer support reps have obviously not read any of my requests for help...just applied a blanket response that didn't even address my concerns. Now I can happily take my stats and go somewhere else.

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

Thank you very much for this information..

Now, I just want to delete my account. Has anyone had any luck with that? LOL, I guess the people who have, would no longer be here!

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

Sunrise, thank you for the tip! Im not on a Mac but for some reason I wasnt able to save my download as anything but CGI. Once I followed your steps I was able to successfully save it as an Excel file! YAY! What a relief!

I am really disappointed with the changes Active.com has made. I've been on a running sabatical for a few months because of pregnancy and dont plan to run again until after my baby is born in April. If not for the heads up from a fellow runner friend, I wouldnt have known to come save my data from my CoolRunning log until it was probably too late!

In addition, the canned responses about how hard everyone on Active.com worked for this transition and how we should just take our lumps as we adjust is getting old. Active.com MESSED UP and unfortunately is losing a lot of devoted CoolRunning people in the process, like myself!

Looks like RunningAHEAD.com will be a great place to pick up the pieces. Its so nice of them to import our saved running logs, I sent them a nice email thanking them for their hard work. I urge everyone who sends their data to them to let them know how much it is appreciated!

Happy running everyone! So long CoolRunning.com and Active.com!

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

Leendert,

Let me echo what others have said: you rock. Was able to get all my data since 2004.

After spending 20 minutes fiddling with Active Trainer, it was readily apparant that the simple functionality of the Cool Running log was ignored. No weekly totals for running? No simple way to log shoe mileage? No way to customize your workouts via preferences? It looks like it was developed by non-runners -- like the 5k that measures 5.6k.

If anyone calls, I'll be busy checking out RunningAhead.

As a side note, it looks like runnersworld.com has a nice free training log -- very similar to Cool Running -- but I'm not sure you can import data.

Good luck to all.

Michael

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

Thank you so very much. Almost like an early Christmas present. I knew when they were changing Cool Running I should have saved my data, but it was just something I forgot to do.

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
Just a quick note to mention that Runningahead has a Paypal "tip jar." Might I suggest dropping in a few dollars. That guy is working his fingers off helping Cool Running refugees.

Also, it is unimportant to most people now, but on a Mac you don't even have to open the CGI file in Word. Just manually change the extension from .cgi to .xls works just as well.

Just a little parting wisdom before I never come back here again.

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this

BIG THANKS for the advice on how to export my cool running log. IT WORKED.

The active data and web site is rubbish by comparison. The cool thing about the cool running site was that it was quick and easy to log, view and graph data. It gave you everything any runner needs to track their training log. The active log does not even come close!!

The only way to keep any cool runners (if they ain't all left) is to give an identical log to CR!!

My data is now all safe in excel. I'm off to find another log.

Thanks again.

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
The download worked for me too. I tried the activetrainer log, but for all the reasons discussed above found it terrible to use, so I am going to another runing log. I tried running2win.com and it seems alot easier to use and closer to coolrunning, and they did a good job loading the data I got from coolrunning. Any other recommendations?

Re: If you cannot get your log, try this
Excellent letter David. I just spent a lot of time wording a similar letter, but you summed it up nicely.
I thought CR was awesome, but my few days with Active were more than enough. See ya.
