Inov-8 short life span?

I picked up a pair of Inov-8 shoes back in May after hearing people really liking them on this forum. I have only used them on my Sunday trail runs and got a blister today on my heal. After taking the shoe off I found a 1/4" wear hole in the upper part of the heal cup. I did a 22 mile run last weekend with no problems and they just began blistering today.

Don't you think I would have felt a pebble if it got in there and rubbed clear to the supportive part of the shoe? Or, could it be something rubbing from the support inward to my heal and just getting through the lining on my run today?

I emailed Inov-8 this evening but I need new shoes by next weekend. Should I just go pick another pair up or go with something different? I can't afford new shoes every 108 miles on the trails.

Thoughts?

Mike

I talked to someone that had a pair of these shoes at a race today and they said the heel started to peel away at the last race and they had to stop because of it! They sound like lemons to me.

Re: Inov-8 short life span?
I also have had absolutely no problem with three different pairs of Inov-8's: Mudclaw 270, RocLite 285, and RocLite 315. I've used them for many ultra-distance trail races and runs over rough terrain, and I think they're great.

However, they're not for everyone. Most of them are really not designed for a heavy heel striker. Maybe that's why they wore out quickly in the heel.

Re: Inov-8 short life span?
I'm sure that the founder of the company would want to hear
that customer support was being unresponsive:

He can be reached at:

"Wayne Edy" <wayne@inov-8.com>

(BTW, I have no financial interest in Inov-8. I met Wayne Edy at
the Wapack trail race, he was visiting from England and working the finish line aid station. He seemed like a very nice guy.)

I've had my Inov-8s for 10 months; and have over 600 miles on them (tend to only use for weekend trail runs) and they're holding up great.

Re: Inov-8 short life span?
Glad it worked out!!

I figured Wayne would set things right. When I talked to him at Wapack, he seemed genuinely interested in making the best possible running products. Not only shoes, but a line of very lightweight backpacks and hydration systems. Also socks that double as gaiters! I mentioned that I love the shoes, but wish there was a way to keep the nasty abrasive dust and grit found on western trails from sifting through the mesh, which can't be protected by gaiters. He recommended the Roclite 315's, which have a gortex layer. Wore them last weekend, basically right out of the box, on an 18-hour "run" (aka death march) on the very technical trails of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. My feet stayed totally clean, and I only got one minor blister! They also gripped the wet rocks like glue. Wasatch footwear identified!!
