salt tablets

I've only used them once (in last year's Jay Peak) but I felt like they were helpful. Now I can't remember what they were. What product/brand names are popular among long distance runners.

Thanks in advance

Re: salt tablets
Succeed for me.

whatever you use make sure you understand how to read the ingredients. NA - Sodium is the key piece and is shown in mg. Sometimes the strength is shown as "salt" NACl that is only 40% Na(sodium). So 100mg of salt = 40 mg of sodium.

Succeed caps have about 350 mg of sodium.

Ecaps have about 40 mg of sodium.

"average" (used loosely) athletes lose 1000 mg of sodium per liter of sweat. So how much you need depends on how much you sweat, how "average" you are, how long is the event and how much sodium you're getting from food/drink intake.

enjoy

Re: salt tablets
I've used Succeed Caps in the past, but recently bought a bottle of Endurolytes. How do they compare to other brands, if anyone knows?

Re: salt tablets
I really did not like the endurolytes and the minimal amount of sodium in them required taking too large a quantity of pills for my liking, personally. Also, with succeed caps that had really helped my tummy issues, but they came right back when i switched to Endurolytes. The switch was short and temporary. Now i only buy Succeed because they seem to work the best with me

Re: salt tablets
Do you buy these in stores or from somewhere on the Web? Never have used them before. Thanks!

Re: salt tablets
I end up with lots of Hammer Endurolyte samples at races but Succeed seems to work best for me too. More sodium so fewer pills to take. I space out the doses depending on how much I'm drinking and how much electrolytes I'm gettting from things like Gel Blocks. I use the Endurolytes for after a little noon time run or something when I just need a small dose.

Re: salt tablets
Really!!! I think you just need to carry some normal NaCl i.e. table salt. I am not sure that one needs to actually buy salt tablets!!! Also, have a packet of crisps or a salty potato if there is someone seconding you. But yes, for ultras and long trail runs, some salt is nessesary to avoid cramping.
